Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin of Thailand has indeed found himself in this predicament, however, he seems to have handled it with expertise. Marking his first overseas trip after assuming the premier’s position, the Prime Minister set his course to New York. His agenda revolved around the 78th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA78) in New York and related meetings. While there, he engaged in talks with national leaders, key individuals at both bilateral and multilateral levels, and heads of international organisations. In the spotlight of a potentially major scandal, the army’s control centre is currently executing a comprehensive examination into the unaccountable vanishing of an alarming quantity of more than 200,000 litres of diesel from its primary Ordnance Materiel renovation facility, strategically placed in the province of Saraburi, just last year. This intriguing development was confirmed by an authorized representative of the army, Maj Gen Sirichan Ngathong. Being the credible deputy spokesperson of the army, Maj Gen Sirichan Ngathong presented an elaborate report on the ongoing investigation. In her statement, she revealed that the army’s specialized audit squad, which specializes in internal checks and balances, raised a red flag upon unearthing anomalies related to the siphoning off of fuel from a specific army division, located in the province of Saraburi. This was of such significance that it triggered an immediate update to the main army administration. In furtherance of these suspicions,…
Within the bustling scene of Khao San Road, located in the heart of Bangkok, one stall that won’t go unnoticed is the one dealing in cannabis products. As of July 2022, the busy hive hints at a unique blend of commerce and controversy, captured by a photograph shared by the Bangkok Post. The narrative woven around this shot isn’t purely about a curious market, though. Instead, it finds footing in the controversy surrounding cannabis use, and more specifically, the use of parts of the plant high in tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). The perspective of one central character in this tale is pivotal. Dr Rasmon Kalayasiri, the director of the Centre of Addiction Studies, is a significant voice in the kingdom’s dialogue around cannabis. She sides with the notion that recreational cannabis use should be completely banned. Her conviction echoes that of Public Health Minister Cholnan Srikaew, who thinks the draft bill about…
One of the most significant drug busts in recent times took place in the Mae Sai district of Chiang Rai province, Thailand, when government border forces confiscated a hefty load of 225 kilogrammes of the highly addictive drug known as crystal methamphetamine, or ‘ice’, as reported by local law enforcement. The significant seizure happened late on a recent Saturday night in the aftermath of a fierce encounter with suspected drug couriers. The incident commenced around half past midnight when a patrol from the 4th Company of a cavalry battalion under the Pha Muang Force encountered a suspicious group of around 10 individuals at Ban Padaeng, the fifth administrative division or Moo 5 village in the tambon Ko Chang region of Mae Sai district. The law enforcement officials initiated a stop for a possible search, which was met with gunshots from the group, resulting in a heated firefight that lasted approximately…
The United States’ sanguine South anticipates the possibility of an utter deluge, an advisory based on the latest atmospheric data duly noted. The imminent torrential downpours stem from a monsoon trough residing across the expanse of the lower Central, the East, and the outer reaches of the South. The situation is further complicated by the escalating southwest monsoon lashing out across the Andaman Sea and Gulf regions. Those residing in elevated terrains should brace themselves for potential flash floods that could ravage the area, stated the meteorological division. Likewise, low-lying areas are at risk, with waterways prone to overflowing due to excessive precipitation. In light of the unpredictable weather, motorists are encouraged to exercise caution, traversing the roads only when necessary, especially during ominous thunder showers. Navigational forecasts reveal wave heights in the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand to range from a modest one metre to a formidable…

The initial phase of the ministry’s comprehensive plan entails setting up an operational body referred to as the “Task Force Command Centre”, the virtual brain of the operation, as elucidated by Minister Prasert Chantararuangthong in a briefing on Friday. This administrative centre will adopt a staunch stance against digital deceptions such as online pecuniary frauds and other menacing cyber threats. Moreover, it will administer firm measures against online miscreants who masquerade as government representatives or authorities, fabricating deceptive websites with the sole intent of swindling the unsuspecting public. This aggressive strategy was further detailed by Minister Prasert. The subsequent stage of the strategic blueprint revolves around leveraging cutting-edge technology, including data analysis and Artificial Intelligence (AI), for scrutinizing online content, thus identifying and fighting off the proliferation of fake news through a dedicated ‘anti-fake news’ hub. This advanced centre would be an online tool for people to authenticate the legitimacy…
The idyllic serenity of the farm was shattered last Friday when approximately 30 crocodiles escaped from their concrete enclosures. The farm, which has the notable occupation of rearing as many as 70 crocodiles, was hit off guard by the unforgiving rage of Mother Nature; a fallen tree courtesy of a particularly violent thunderstorm wrecked havoc, damaging two of its concrete ponds and as a result, creating an exit way for the crocodiles to embark on their unexpected adventure. In the pursuit to regain order and safety, the province’s Fishery Department and rescue authorities sprung into action. By Friday night, their relentless efforts resulted in the retrieval of 26 on-the-run crocodiles. It was a relief that no harm befell any human during this hair-raising incident. Even though the crocodiles exacted their short-lived freedom, their captivity was reinstated without any individual paying the price in terms of injury or life. The weekend…
An array of prominent routes throughout the province experienced massive inundation. Rat-U-Thit, Nanai, and Sai Nam Yen were amongst the most severely afflicted, becoming completely impassable for vehicular transit. Torrential rains caused water levels to rise significantly, leaving these main thoroughfares engulfed beneath the floodwaters. In the midst of this chaos, numerous parked cars were found entirely submerged within the water’s encroaching tide. The deluge did not discriminate, ruthlessly invading homes and damaging buildings without prejudice. The destructive power of these extraordinary rain volumes was evident in the distressing scenes playing out across the region. Nevertheless, as reports trickled in towards press time, the situation was beginning to show signs of improvement. The floodwaters had significantly receded in various locales, giving signs of a cautious return to relative normality. Like the calm after a ferocious storm, life was sluggishly but surely resuming its usual rhythm once again. Yet the ordeal…
