The uproar circles around a provocative billboard in Bangkok publicizing foreign passports for sale. This advertisement raised eyebrows and sparked debates, which eventually caught up with Qin Ling at Don Mueang airport. Remarkably, Qin Ling, 33, had already been in the Immigration Bureau’s surveillance system after Chinese authorities issued a warrant for his arrest on charges of ID card fraud, as per Pol Lt Gen Itthipol Itthisaranachai, the bureau chief.
Further compounding his troubles, Qin Ling’s permit to remain within the kingdom was rescinded, and the Immigration Bureau has indicated plans to extradite him back to China, according to Pol Lt Gen Itthipol.
As investigations unraveled, it was revealed that Qin Ling is married to Xu Na, 35, who herself became embroiled in the controversy tied to the billboard in Huai Khwang district. Xu Na was apprehended just a day prior, on Tuesday.
This billboard—promising a 30-day service for acquiring foreign passports and citizenship—sparked a major uproar both online and offline over the weekend. Investigators traced one of the phone numbers displayed on the advertisement back to Qin Ling’s mobile phone, thus intertwining him more tightly with the incident.
On Wednesday, Xu Na faced the Bangkok North Municipal Court. Accusations against her included working without an appropriate permit. This offense led to her being handed a four-month detention sentence, a fine of 5,000 baht, and subsequent addition to the immigration blacklist.
