Yesterday, China Airlines said that it will start flying to Chiang Mai, Thailand. The Taiwanese airline said on the day it reopened its borders that flights to the city of Chiang Mai in northern Thailand would start on January 20, 2019. Starting next month, there will be three flights a week between Brisbane and Taipei.
The airline also said that during the last three months of this year, there will be 30% more flights and 50% more flights to Southeast Asia. The flight CI851 from Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport to Chiang Mai leaves at 7.50 a.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday and arrives at 11 a.m. From October to December 2022, there will also be three flights a week to Auckland. In October and November, there will be three flights a week from Sydney and Melbourne to Taipei, up from the two flights they have now. In December, there will be four flights a week. China Airlines says that by the beginning of 2023, you will be able to fly to 17 Southeast Asian destinations, such as Cebu in the Philippines, Bali, Australia, and New Zealand. The flight to Chiang Mai is part of the state-owned flag carrier’s plan to get more people to change planes in Taiwan on their way to Europe and the United States. Flight CI852 leaves Chiang Mai around noon and arrives in Taiwan around 5:00. All flights to Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane are made with an Airbus A350. It won’t happen until next year, which is too bad.
