In 1996, at the request of King Bhumibol Adulyadej and Queen Sirikit of Thailand, Her Majesty visited Bangkok. Queen Elizabeth and the Duke of Edinburgh also held a Return Concert out of respect for King Bhumibol Adulyadej, Queen Sirikit, and the Thai Royal Family. They wished to pay homage to the 96-year-old monarch who had spent seven decades on the British throne, as did many people around the world, including Vice President Joe Biden of the United States. After allowing mourners to pay their respects in Westminster Hall for four days, the casket of Queen Elizabeth will be carried to nearby Westminster Abbey today at roughly 10.35am London time, 5.35pm Thai time. She and her husband, the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Philip, visited northern Chiang Mai for the first time on February 14, 1972. Later on Monday, Britain, international leaders, and nobles from around the world will gather for a burial of historic magnitude.
The official lying-in-state period closes at 6.30 a.m. (0530 GMT), four days after hundreds of thousands passed by the casket of Britain’s longest-reigning monarch at the historic Westminster Hall in London. Thanee Saengrat, the Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, announced that Thailand will honor Queen Elizabeth and send a delegation to offer condolences for the loss experienced by the United Kingdom. The oak coffin, draped with the Royal Standard flag and crowned with the Imperial State Crown, will be placed on a gun carriage and hauled by navy men to Westminster Abbey before 11 a.m. for her funeral. In her lifetime, Queen Elizabeth made two journeys to Thailand.

Britain and the rest of the world bid Queen Elizabeth farewell
