Thai Airways announced in August that, as part of its reorganization efforts, it will rent three extra aircraft and hire 600 additional employees this year. The airline said that they were able to increase its turnover rate in the third quarter by dispersing plane seats, decreasing expenses, selling stock, pursuing debts, and selling shares. Piyasavat Amranand, president of the Reorganization Committee of Thai Airways International Public Company, expects the company to return to profitability within two years.
Philippine Airlines (PAL) announced that direct flights between Cebu City and Bangkok, Thailand’s capital, will return in December. The Philippine national airline recently revealed intentions to begin a new service that will operate on Mondays and Fridays. On December 9, the inaugural flight will depart Cebu in the morning and arrive in Bangkok in the early afternoon of the same day. Between December 2017 and March 2020, PAL operated a service between Cebu and the city serving as the capital of Thailand. Similar to its competitor Thai Airways, PAL encountered more than its fair share of difficulties as a result of the pandemic. In order to get back on the runway, the corporation was compelled to completely restructure its business program. The company attributes the effective implementation of its reorganization plans to the unwavering support of its creditors and shareholders as well as the cooperation of its many industry partners. After streamlining its operations and rearranging its fleet, the airline believed it was in a better position for future expansion; it believed it was now in a more favorable position for such expansion.
