On what seemed like just another ordinary day on the scenic coastal road near Rayong’s Maptaput Industrial Estate, an event unfolded that left onlookers in absolute disbelief. A pickup truck, seemingly out of nowhere, found itself at odds with gravity, plummeting straight into the sea. For the helpless bystanders, witnessing the truck and its lone occupant vanish beneath the waves was a heart-stopping moment straight out of a real-life thriller.

The murky waters became the setting of a tense and dramatic incident, reported on this day, February 17, to Mueang Rayong District Police Station. The alarm was first sounded by a local fisherman, whose peaceful morning took a drastic turn as he witnessed the truck’s dramatic dive into the ocean’s embrace. The scene upon the police and emergency services’ arrival was eerie yet telling. Debris scattered along the seawall told tales of the truck’s unfortunate encounter with the sea, while the licence plate, ฒษ-345 from Bangkok, lay abandoned on the shore like a piece of unsolvable puzzle.

As the fisherman’s account goes, there was an emotional rollercoaster of an attempt to aid the truck’s occupant. But the sea, in a rather unforgiving mood, showed no mercy. With mighty waves and relentless currents, it became a swift and unbeatable adversary, forcing the fisherman to contact the authorities promptly, as KhaoSod (the news source on the front line) would later recount.

Divers bravely took to the waters, embarking on a challenging search mission. However, they soon found themselves up against rough sea conditions, making the search for the elusive vehicle akin to finding a needle in a haystack. As dawn broke at 6 am, the truck remained elusive—a marine ghost of sorts, evading all efforts to reveal its location. Plans were in place for a continued search operation, with emergency teams poised to unravel the mystery of the vehicle’s destiny and that of its occupant.

Meanwhile, in similar news that only adds to the high-octane drama within Thailand’s roads and waterways, another story unfolds from the not-too-distant past. Back on November 13 last year, the quiet tranquility of Kanchanaburi province was shattered when a car veered off course, diving into an irrigation canal. The car carried a couple—57-year-old Kanya, who emerged from the water-drenched but alive, and her husband, 69-year-old Thongbai, who, much like the Rayong truck, disappeared beneath the waves and remained missing.

The Tha Rua Police, who received the distress call regarding this aquatic mishap in Nong Rai, Tha Rua, Tha Maka district, promptly rallied the underwater operations team from the Khun Rattanavuth Foundation. Their mission: to find and rescue. Kanya, visibly shaken from her brush with danger, was rescued and rushed to Makarak Hospital for much-needed medical care.

With these stories unfolding, Thailand remains a rich tapestry of events where daily occurrences can pivot from the mundane to the extraordinary in an instant. And with breaking news always around the corner, one can’t help but be drawn into the ever-turning wheel of fate and fortune.
