The Poh Teck Tung Foundation is forging a path toward creating lasting and sustainable livelihoods in Udon Thani province, located in northeastern Thailand. The organization has committed to arming poverty-stricken households with job-related tools, launching this as part of an all-encompassing poverty reduction collaborative initiative, designed in partnership with the Community Development Department. A mobile medical unit was also dispatched in the area, offering its services to the public free of charge.

The board member and deputy secretary of the Poh Teck Tung Foundation, Surapong Tetraruvichit, presided over a ceremony where they donated substantial, job-related equipment to 27 struggling households in Udon Thani province. This province is the sixth one in the northeastern region to receive such support. These donations, reaching a total value of 672,755 baht, aim to bolster and support the livelihoods of the impoverished families, providing them with the means to sustain themselves and live by the principles of a self-sufficiency economy.

In collaboration with the Community Development Department and the Ministry of Interior, a memorandum of understanding was signed on Integrated Poverty Alleviation Cooperation. The governor of Udon Thani, Wanchai Kongkasem, and the deputy director of the Community Development Department, Vithoon Nualnukool, co-chaired the distribution ceremony. Siriporn Krachangla and Suparat Somjareon, the respective managers of the Welfare Department and the Education and Occupation Promotion Department, headed their teams’ participation in the ceremony, hosted in the conference hall of the Udon Thani district office.

Running in parallel with this event, the leader of the community medical care unit, Naowarat Wannasiri, guided her team in providing free services to the public. Services ranged from general illness diagnosis and treatment to medication distribution, eyesight measurement glasses distribution, and even hair-cutting services. These comprehensive offerings drew large crowds, according to reports from KhaoSod.

The Integrated Poverty Alleviation project, run by the Poh Teck Tung Foundation, continually supports families by providing necessary occupational tools. Its efforts are a result of an agreement made with the Community Development Department. Part of the foundation’s strategy includes setting aside a budget to procure such utilities for needy households, again aiding them in their self-sustainability and support of their families. Initially covering 17 central provinces and a total of 98 households, the foundation extended its reach to 17 more northern provinces to aid an additional 230 households. The foundation is now considering taking on northeastern provinces, which includes 20 provinces. So far, the foundation has penetrated six provinces, assisting 147 households, with an accumulated value of 3,070,105 baht.
