Thanalop ‘Yok’ Phalanchai, a 15-year-old political activist, recently made headlines when she was expelled from Triam Udom Suksa Pattanakarn School in Bangkok for allegedly failing to complete her enrollment process on time. Despite this setback, she bravely returned to the school on Monday, asserting her right to an education and challenging the strict dress codes and traditional school ceremonies. As she entered the school grounds, no one stood in Yok’s way, even though the school was surrounded by policewomen who were tasked with maintaining order. With her iconic dyed hair and casual attire, she defied school regulations and claimed that her enrollment process had been completed a month prior. She argued that the school’s management statement, which declared her enrollment “incomplete,” was false. Yok argued for her right to choose what to wear and how to style her hair, criticizing the school’s traditional attire requirements as a form of authoritarianism.…

This led to the derailment of eight carriages. Among the three injured train crewmen were train driver Suthep Samphinong and guard Bovornwit Wichitkul, who were both treated at a local hospital for minor injuries before being released. Train engineer Somsak Traidecha, however, suffered a more severe injury to his right leg and was…
In a dramatic turn of events, a hostage was rescued from his armed abductors when he cried for help as their car approached a police checkpoint in Bangkok’s Min Buri district early Tuesday morning. The hostage’s five alleged captors, who were traveling in two vehicles, were arrested and six guns with 61 rounds of ammunition were seized. The incident occurred around 12:30 a.m. when traffic police manning a drink driving test station on Rom Klao Road heard a desperate plea for help from inside a Chevrolet car. Police immediately stopped the vehicle and another Toyota car that was following it in hot pursuit. Upon searching the cars, authorities arrested the five suspects and rescued the 40-year old hostage, identified as Uthen. Six guns and a cache of ammunition were discovered in the vehicles, and all the involved persons were taken to the Min Buri police station. Uthen recounted his harrowing…
Informal international talks on Myanmar, held in Pattaya on Monday, have been deemed successful, with participants expressing a desire for more such discussions, according to caretaker Foreign Minister Don Pramudwinai. During a recent visit to Government House, Mr. Don remarked that the atmosphere at the meeting was favorable and that attendees want Thailand to organize similar events in the future. “Informal discussions are a way to solve problems. Thailand has held them twice before. They were beneficial, or previous participants would not have attended again,” he said. The recent discussion saw the introduction of issues that had not been addressed at earlier meetings, and there were more participants than in previous sessions. The Monday meeting saw representatives from seven countries in attendance, including China and India, both of which share borders with Myanmar. When asked why the caretaker government would not let the incoming new government and the Association of…
A TikTok video featuring a foreign woman provocatively exposing herself on the back of a red baht bus in downtown Chiang Mai has prompted the city’s baht bus cooperative, Nakornlanna Co, to call on its members to prevent such incidents in the future. The cooperative, which has 2,199 red baht bus operators in Chiang Mai, expressed concern that this type of behavior could negatively impact the city’s reputation as a place of beautiful culture and tourism, as well as the image of the red baht buses themselves. Natthawut Chotethaweephun, president of Nakornlanna Co, responded to the three videos posted on the TikTok account under huanxi59, which is allegedly run by a Chinese girl. The videos showed a woman dancing provocatively on a red baht bus while donning a bra top and lowering her trousers to reveal her bottom and G-string panties. With each video having been viewed between 500,000 and…
On June 14, Pita Limjaroenrat, the leader of the Move Forward Party, received a warm welcome from supporters in Lampang province. Serial petitioner Ruangkrai Leekitwattana continues his crusade against Pita Limjaroenrat, now requesting the Election Commission (EC) to seek a Constitutional Court ruling on Pita’s eligibility to be a Member of Parliament (MP). Ruangkrai stated that he had sent his request to the EC via express mail on Tuesday. As of Monday, the EC had endorsed all 500 MPs-elect for both constituency seats and party lists, meaning Pita has been an MP since the May 14 general election. According to Ruangkrai, there are sufficient grounds for the EC to act under paragraph four of Section 82 of the 2017 constitution, which would lead to the Constitutional Court ruling on whether Pita had lost his MP status under Sections 101 (3) and 98 (3) of the constitution. Section 82’s paragraph four…
The latest panel discussion, focusing on the preparation of strategies for the ambitious next coalition government, addressed measures to combat the ongoing insurgency in southern Thailand, according to a Move Forward MP-elect representative. The second meeting of the panel took place at the Prachachart Party’s headquarters on Monday, following its initial meeting at Move Forward headquarters last week. Monday’s meeting was led by Prachachart secretary-general Thawee Sodsong and attended by representatives from the eight coalition partners, including Move Forward’s Ramadon Panjor, Pheu Thai’s Paradorn Pattanathabutr, Fair Party secretary-general Kannawe Suebsaeng, and Thai Sang Thai’s Chavalit Wichayasut. Ramadon explained that they discussed urgent actions to be taken within the first 100 days of the Move Forward-led coalition government and plans for the government’s four-year term. For almost 20 years, southern Thailand has been plagued by violence since an army barrack was attacked and firearms stolen on January 4, 2004. He suggested…
Yok Phalancha, a 15-year-old activist, boldly walked into the Triam Udom Suksa Pattanakarn School in Bangkok on Monday morning, accompanied by the presence of policewomen outside to maintain order. Yok, a grade 10 student, has had her enrollment deemed “incomplete” by the school management, but she continues to fight for her right to an education. Unabashedly sporting her signature dyed hair and casual clothing — a clear violation of school regulations — Yok expressed her determination and refused to accept the school’s assertion that her enrollment was incomplete. Despite having completed the process on May 16th, paying her school fees, and attending the school for a month, she still faces resistance. Yok remains steadfast in her decision to wear her preferred hairstyle and clothing instead of a school uniform, as well as her refusal to participate in school ceremonies. She argues that her choices are a fundamental right and the…

An election official in Bangkok displayed a ballot during vote counting following the general election on May 14. On Monday, the Election Commission (EC) endorsed all 400 constituency MPs-elect and 100 party-list MPs-elect, reserving the right to investigate any potential electoral fraud involving them within a year. EC Secretary-General Sawaeng Boonmee informed the newly elected MPs that they could report to the parliament from Tuesday until Saturday. Although the EC approved the newly elected MPs, it maintained the right to look into any fraud allegations within one year, as allowed by the election law. During this period, the EC could request the Supreme Court to nullify the electoral and candidacy rights of anyone deemed to have engaged in fraudulent activities during the May 14 general election. Since the EC could not wrap up its investigation into these allegations within 60 days after the election or by July 13, it would…
