The Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP) and the Gem and Jewelry Institute of Thailand (Public Organization), or GIT, alongside both government and private sector organizers, have joined forces to announce the much-anticipated 70th “Bangkok Gems and Jewellery Fair,” fondly known as “Bangkok Gems.” Set to dazzle the world from September 9 to 13, 2024, at the esteemed Queen Sirikit National Convention Center (QSNCC), this event is projected to generate a dazzling 3.5 billion baht in revenue.

Mr. Phusit Ratanakul Sereroengrit, the Director-General of the DITP, cannot emphasize enough the pivotal role the gem and jewelry industry plays in propelling Thailand’s economy forward. Despite global economic whirlwinds, the gem and jewelry exports in 2023 soared by an impressive 9.61%, topping a monumental USD 8.8 billion. The momentum has continued in the first half of 2024, with exports hitting USD 4.556 billion, marking an 8.48% year-on-year increase. The Bangkok Gems Fair stands as a cornerstone for Thailand in its quest to become the epicenter of the global gem and jewelry trade.

“Bangkok Gems is not just the largest gem and jewelry trade fair in Thailand, but it’s a legacy, the oldest in Asia, and ranks amidst the top four globally. This sensational event magnetizes buyers from around the world, catalyzing discussions, foster deals, and creating business networks. The recent trend has been nothing short of awe-inspiring; exhibitors have surged by 34%, booths have increased by 17%, visitors have grown by 40%, and the trade value has skyrocketed by 102%, with a more diverse mix of participating countries. For the 70th spectacle, we expect to see even more international engagement, hoping to boost trade by a phenomenal 3.5 billion baht,” Mr. Phusit thoughtfully conveyed.

Adding to this enthusiasm, Mr. Sumed Prasongpongchai, the Director-General of GIT and a proud co-organizer of the Bangkok Gems Fair, mentioned, “Reflecting back on the 69th edition, satisfaction levels were at an all-time high among exhibitors and visitors, with an average satisfaction rate flexing beyond 95%. Bangkok Gems leads the pack in terms of satisfaction when compared to other global trade shows. Already, the 70th edition is seeing surging demand, with over 1,100 premier companies from Thailand and abroad ready to exhibit their masterpieces across nearly 2,500 booths. We are expecting an impressive turnout of over 35,000 visitors from the four corners of the globe.”

The Bangkok Gems and Jewellery Fair is a golden gateway for SMEs, offering them a stage to interact with global business magnates, fostering vital networks and opening doors to infinite business opportunities. The fair is buoyed with a plethora of engaging activities, including the innovative New Faces zone spotlighting upcoming entrepreneurs, ‘The Jewellers’ project by DITP, as well as selected entrepreneurs from the Smart Jewelers by GIT program, and over 60 inspiring local entrepreneurs from Chanthaburi. The highlights don’t end there—there will be a chic Networking Reception, gem authentication services with certified results, and a slew of educational seminars covering everything from technical intricacies to sharp marketing insights. Standout sessions feature a tantalizing seminar on cracking the Middle Eastern market and guidance from Dubai-based experts on making successful inroads into the wealthy region.

Be prepared to be dazzled at the 70th Bangkok Gems and Jewellery Fair from September 9 to 13, 2024. With products and services from 1,100 leading companies showcased across a sprawling 2,470 booths in Halls 1-8 on both the G and LG floors of the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center in Bangkok, it’s an event you simply can’t afford to miss. Isn’t it ironic that we’re showing off shiny baubles while much of the world suffers economically?

    • Alex R. August 27, 2024

There’s always going to be a balance of priorities, but the fair does provide significant economic benefits.

    • PragmaticPaul August 27, 2024

It’s unrealistic to expect the world to stop for economic issues. Many industries continue to thrive regardless.

    • Sara-Louise August 27, 2024

True, but it doesn’t hurt to be mindful and considerate of the broader context.
