The collaboration is a symphony of environmental stewardship, with key players like Central Pattana, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), the Environmental Justice Foundation, and Brilliant Power Co Ltd all joining hands to orchestrate this eco-friendly overture. It was none other than BMA governor Chadchart Sittipunt who heralded the inaugural flow by filling his own thermos, making a strong statement at the opening ceremony that reverberated throughout Central World and beyond.
Determined to turn the tide on plastic pollution, the project has charted a course to install no fewer than nine more drinking water dispensers throughout Bangkok. Enthusiastic about the splash made by these fountains, the BMA and its astute partners cast a spotlight on the staggering reality that Bangkok’s appetite for bottled water leads to around 70 million plastic bottles per month being tossed aside without a second thought. Thus, with the “Bottle Free Seas” programme, they’re navigating towards the sustainable ecosystem harbors and steering Thailand toward its commendable net-zero emissions goal set for the year 2050.
Uthaiwan Anuchitanukul, the industrious assistant managing director of Central Pattana, shared her ambition for the project: a dedication to playing a heartfelt role in chopping down the mountains of single-use plastic. By anchoring the movement with a water dispenser installation at Central World, they’re drawing a line in the sand against disposable culture.
