With the collaboration of three various entities from different sectors, namely Siriraj Hospital from Mahidol University’s Faculty of Medicine, the Faculty of Engineering, and True Corporation Plc., an ambitious project called “AI Smart Logistics for 5G Smart Hospital” has been launched. The central objective of this venture is to transform Siriraj into a high-tech “smart hospital” that will aid Thailand’s progression towards becoming a sustainable medical hub.

Dr. Cherdchai Nopmaneejumruslers, the vice director of Siriraj Hospital, highlighted that the foundation of this “smart hospital” project lies in harnessing AI technology along with 5G Cloud computing innovation. The intention is to elevate the level of Hospital’s services, making them more effective and qualitative. In Dr. Cherdchai’s words, Siriraj Hospital is working towards rendering best of best services to its patients with minimal difficulties. To accomplish this, they are trimming down the redundant steps, considering the user satisfaction and simultaneously integrating digital technologies and novelty.

According to the hospital administration, the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) is a significant contributor to this project financially. A highlighted invention of this initiative is a smart drug store and transportation system.

Prof. Thanapat Wanichanon, dean of Mahidol University’s Faculty of Engineering, shared that this advanced system is utilizing AI technology to monitor and manage the delivery schedule of medicines within the hospital’s premises. The main consequence he pointed out is the notable enhancement in the efficiency, timeliness, and precision of deliveries, which will eventually lead to the upgrading of medical services quality. He emphasized that the project is a prime instance demonstrating the synergy among two faculties focusing on carving out innovations having commercial potential and profitability.

Excavating more about the project, Prof. Duangpun Kritchanchai, the head of Mahidol University’s Centre of Logistics and Healthcare Supply Chain, explained that the center is applying data science along with AI technology to develop a smart delivery platform involving 5G unmanned vehicles. She confidently said that the ground-breaking system will considerably cut down the operational costs primarily associated with the Hospital’s medical supplies inventory. As a result, the hospital will have better control and management over the storage.

She added that the mechanism of medicine supply inventory management would be much more accurate with this system and the hospital will always have a ready stock of drugs and essential medical supplies. This will ensure that the patients receive the required medicines and services well in time, thus enhancing the overall security of patients in the Hospital.

The blueprint of the avant-garde innovation, named “Intelligent Solutions for Hospital Logistics”, has been shared as a model for any hospital interested in a similar transformation.

Close to the conclusion, Pichit Thanyodom, the chief corporate solutions and cooperation officer at True Corporation Plc, disclosed the company’s active role in co-developing the smart hospital model to wave a new era in Thailand’s healthcare sector. He stated that True, being a forerunner in the 5G internet services domain, assisted in creating an electrically powered 5G unmanned vehicle.
