Cybercrime police officers have intercepted two suspects implicated in a sophisticated scam ring on Thursday, as showcased by a gripping snapshot released by the Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau (CCIB). This gang cunningly exploited foreign workers, coercing them into opening mule bank accounts which were subsequently hawked to scammers. These dubious accounts were the lifeblood of over 3 billion baht worth of fraudulent transactions.

The nefarious operation began by legally importing foreign labor into Thailand. However, upon arrival, these unsuspecting workers were duped into establishing bank accounts across various financial institutions. Little did they know, these accounts would soon find their way into the hands of swindlers, including illicit gambling website operators.

On Thursday, the CCIB proudly rolled out the ‘Save Foreign Workers’ initiative, an investigative endeavor that peeled back the layers of this elaborate fraud. Their diligent efforts unearthed a staggering 50 plus foreign workers who had fallen prey to this scheme, and a whopping 3 billion baht flowed through these tainted accounts. Notably, over 100 of these fraudulent accounts have since been shuttered, slamming the brakes on the scammers’ cash flow.

The police didn’t stop there. They launched coordinated raids on eight different locales spanning Pathum Thani, Ayutthaya, Nonthaburi, and Nakhon Pathom. These multi-front assaults led to the capture of two gang members, though one crafty suspect managed to give them the slip and remains at large, with authorities hot on their trail.

In the wake of these arrests, authorities are sounding the alarm for both employers and foreign workers. They underscored the importance of remaining vigilant against such intricate scams that prey on the unsuspecting. The CCIB’s actions serve as a stern reminder: the fight against cybercrime is relentless, and those peddling deceit will be brought to justice.
