In the heart of Chachoengsao, an unfortunate incident has unfolded, casting a shadow over the image of local law enforcement. In a shocking turn of events, an inebriated police officer behind the wheel of a police pickup truck collided with a motorcycle attached to a sidecar, causing significant harm to a female driver.

The mishap took place in the quiet Tambon Thung Phraya of Sanam Chai Khet district around 8:30 PM on what was otherwise an ordinary Monday. Captured by surveillance cameras, the heart-stopping video reveals a woman, known only by her first name, Surinipha, preparing to depart from a residence on her trusty motorbike. This moment of normalcy was abruptly shattered as a speeding pickup barreled down the lane, striking her vehicle and dragging it mercilessly along the asphalt.

Ms. Surinipha endured severe injuries, including a concussion and a fractured right arm. Medical authorities anticipate she will remain in care at Buddhasothorn Hospital for an estimated three to four days. The vehicle involved was later identified as a police pickup, and the officer culpable for the disaster was Pol Capt Saksit Chimanonwit, a 52-year-old stationed at Wang Khu police station.

As the investigation unfolded, Pol Capt Saksit was found to be under the influence, his blood alcohol level recorded at 0.079%, well above the legal limit of 0.05% for experienced drivers. Consequently, serious charges of drink-driving and reckless driving leading to bodily harm were promptly filed against him. These developments catalyzed swift action from Pol Maj Kriengkrai Boonson, the commander of Chachoengsao police, who reassigned Pol Capt Saksit to an inactive role and initiated an official probe into the incident.

In an effort to make amends, Pol Capt Saksit met with Ms. Surinipha at the hospital, offering both an apology and a financial compensation of 20,000 baht, alongside the assurance of further support and compensation following her discharge. Nevertheless, legal proceedings are expected to proceed as per standard judicial protocol.

Addressing the media, a remorseful Pol Capt Saksit expressed his regret over the incident, emphasizing his personal accountability and apologizing for his actions. Despite this misstep, his peers vouched for his character, describing him as a generally responsible officer known for indulging in his drinking habits post-work. However, this incident has ignited a firestorm across social media platforms, with many users voicing their discontent and disillusionment towards the police force.

Among the deluge of comments, one particularly resonated, echoing the sentiments of many: “Police should protect people, but this officer demonstrated a blatant disregard for driving discipline.” Indeed, such incidents highlight the crucial need for law enforcement personnel to adhere not only to the regulations they enforce but also to maintain the public trust they represent.

This is a disgrace! A police officer should be upholding the law, not breaking it. What kind of example is this setting?

    • Julia K May 7, 2025

Exactly! It’s beyond irresponsible. It makes you wonder how many others are getting away with similar behaviors.

      • Leo_the_Lion May 7, 2025

Absolutely, accountability is seriously lacking. This needs a thorough investigation, or trust in law enforcement will keep eroding.

    • Ramiro Davis May 7, 2025

While I agree it’s terrible, we should also consider the fact that the officer has apologized and is trying to make it right.

  2. Sandra May 7, 2025

The fact that he is still receiving support from his peers despite his actions is astonishing. Drinking post-work is not an excuse.

    • Johnny May 7, 2025

Sadly, it’s often the case that people cover for each other in tight-knit groups like the police force.

      • Sandra May 7, 2025

True, but it doesn’t make it right. They should hold each other to higher standards instead.

    • Liz B May 7, 2025

It is worrisome. Public trust is fragile and easily broken by such incidents.

  3. David H May 7, 2025

It’s commendable that the officer took responsibility, but what about the victim? Imagine if it was someone close to you who got injured.

    • Rina May 7, 2025

Good point! His actions during the incident are inexcusable and overshadow his character outside of it.

  4. GamerDude123 May 7, 2025

This happens all the time, folks. People in power never face real consequences.

    • Erica May 7, 2025

Unfortunately, many feel that way. Until real changes occur in the justice system, skepticism will remain.

  5. Officer Barry May 7, 2025

Not all officers are like this. Don’t let a few bad apples spoil the bunch. We’re out there doing our best every day.

    • Louise S May 7, 2025

I understand, Barry, and most officers are great, but holding everyone to high standards is important for trust.

  6. Kevin Choi May 7, 2025

The offer of 20,000 baht compensation is like a slap in the face in such cases. Does it lessen her pain?

    • Carter May 7, 2025

Compensation is just a start, but justice should mean more responsibility and consequences for the officer.

  7. Ruth P May 7, 2025

The legal limit for alcohol should be zero for officers on duty, period. It’s just common sense to maintain discipline.

  8. Xander L May 7, 2025

Mistakes happen, but when it involves law enforcement, the stakes are much higher. It’s a tough situation.

  9. CloudWalker May 7, 2025

I’m relieved the victim is expected to recover. I hope she receives fair treatment and justice through the legal system.

Police misconduct is becoming way too common a narrative. It’s frightening that this level of irresponsibility is prevalent.

This is a reminder that no one is above the law. Stringent measures are necessary to rectify this lax attitude.

  12. Kylie J May 7, 2025

They should enforce stricter rules on off-duty drinking for officers. It’s a thin line between personal life and duty.

  13. AvocadoToast May 7, 2025

Shows again how important it is to advocate for changes in policy to prevent such occurrences in the future.

  14. Hazel May 7, 2025

It’s tragic incidents like these that call for a major overhaul in how law enforcement is trained and disciplined. Public safety should be top-tier.

I hope this can lead to positive changes, stricter regulations, and more awareness about accountability within the police force.

  16. Bella J May 7, 2025

Public pressure seems to be the only driving force for change. We can’t expect transformations without vocal disapproval from the community.

  17. Jared May 7, 2025

Let this be a warning to other officers. It’s time the department steps up its game in ensuring their officers understand the seriousness of their roles.
