In the clutches of law enforcement are three individuals implicated in an expansive meat smuggling scheme. The arrest comes as a result of relentless investigative work by the Department of Special Investigation (DSI). Through their unwavering effort, they have uncovered, not one, but five companies entwined in this illicit trade.

Sources revealed during a press update on Saturday that the captured threesome go by the undercover names of Manee, Ran, and Mon. Following a successful operation that saw officers scour through the labyrinthine streets of Prawet and Lat Prao districts in Bangkok, the suspects were rounded up from their hideouts—a private residence and an unsuspecting commercial space respectively.

Heading the abovementioned operations center is the steadfast Witthawat Sukhontharos, who was able to offer further details about the arrests. With a trail of evidence strong enough to convince the court for arrest warrants, the trio were hauled in on October 19.

Their charges are no small matters. The triumvirate face accusations of dodging import tax and roped into this they face charges of smuggling pork, facilitated through illegal channels, explicitly violating the iron-clad Animal Disease Act.

The intricate web of illegal meat trading became the center of attention after a tragic event roused public attention—a member of the Department of Livestock was tragically killed during an inspection of a cold storage facility. Another official also suffered injuries during the incident, reported on October 11 in Phetchabun province. The arrested assailant, a disgruntled local entrepreneur, retaliated after authorities discovered approximately a tonne of contraband meat stowed away in his commercial freezers.

A deeper dig brought forth a harrowing revelation—the cold storage facility had been functioning off the grid for several prolonged years, all while devoid of any legal permit.

The water has not yet settled; details from seasoned investigator Pol Maj Nathapol Ditsayatham reveal possible links to a wider network. The arrested trio is reportedly linked to five twilight companies that have been merely serving as pawns dancing to the tunes of wire-puller businessmen in Samut Sakhon, Ratchaburi, and Nakhon Pathom.

In a startling turn of events, it transpires that up to 10 entities could be coiled up in this convoluted web of illegal meat import businesses. As they continue to peel back the layers of this complex case, investigators remain unwavering in their determination to bring all perpetrators to justice.
