In an incident straight out of a wild adventure tale, a highly venomous cobra found its way into a boy’s bedroom in Maha Sarakham province, resulting in an unforgettable weekend for everyone involved. This chilling encounter took place in a housing estate in the tranquil tambon Lao of Kosum Phisai district early Saturday morning.
The morning chaos began when 13-year-old Tan felt a sharp, searing pain on his left foot. It didn’t take long for him to understand that he’d been bitten by a snake. With a mix of adrenaline and terror, he bolted out of his bedroom and slammed the door shut, effectively trapping the slithering intruder inside.
Ms Mayura, Tan’s aunt, who was about 20 meters away from the house, heard her mother’s panicked cries alerting her that something dreadful had occurred. The revelation came with the overwhelming news that her beloved nephew had been bitten by a snake right in his bedroom.
In the midst of the family’s distress, they wasted no time. Tan was rushed to Maha Sarakham hospital by his relatives. His tear-streaked face and a bandaged foot were stark evidence of his encounter with nature’s dark side. Thankfully, he received prompt medical attention and was on the road to recovery, although the emotional scars of such an experience would surely linger.
Meanwhile, the drama did not end there. Enter the heroes of the day: the local rescue team. With nerves of steel and expert hands, they ventured into the room where the cobra lurked. Inside a mosquito netting tent – ironically meant to protect the boy from smaller pests – lay the nearly one-meter-long cobra, waiting to be captured. With swift precision, the rescuers bagged the snake, ensuring no further harm could come from the unexpected guest.
Ms Korakot, Tan’s mother, was not at home during the ordeal. Speaking on Monday, she recounted her typical morning routine: turning off the air conditioner at 7 am and opening the bedroom door to let in the fresh morning breeze. Little did she know, an uninvited guest had slipped in when she opened the back door, making its way into her son’s sanctuary. She described the event as utterly unforeseen, especially since they lived in a housing estate far from any forested areas where such snakes usually dwell.
After two tension-filled days in the hospital, Tan was finally on the mend. The boy, who had faced one of nature’s most menacing creatures and come out the other side, was gradually recovering. Ms Korakot expressed immense relief and gratitude that her son was safe and the situation hadn’t escalated further.
