In a solemn pronouncement, the revered Chula Rajamontri Office made the heavy-hearted statement that their esteemed Chula Rajamontri, Asis Pitakkumpol, had sadly “returned to the mercy of Allah at the poignant time of 10.32am”. They went on to say that the final farewell to this great man will be fittingly marked by an evocative prayer rite, set to take place at the iconic Songkhla Central Mosque. The well-planned commemoration is slated to unfold from the crack of dawn at 10am this forthcoming Monday.
In the wake of a worrisome Friday, the office disclosed to the public that Asis found himself in the unfamiliar environment of a hospital room, the noticeable decline in his health causing concern amongst the staff and the community alike. The office called upon the boundless compassion of His Majesty the King as Asis was crowned a distinguished patient under the monarch’s sponsorship. A united Muslim community was asked to stand shoulder to shoulder during these trying times, each individual urged to send their prayers flying high for Asis.
Asis Pitakkumpol first saw the light of world on the 6th of March, 1947, in the modest tambon of Hua Khao, nestled in the center of the Singha Nakhon district of the idyllic Songkhla Province. His journey on earth was shared with two beloved sisters and a younger brother. Born into the proud lineage of Sultan Sulaiman Shah, a governor from the annals of Songkhla’s historic era, he carried the weight of their grand heritage with innately royal grace.
In a unanimous vote, held on May 16, 2010, Asis was honored by the many members of the national Islamic committees, who elected him as the 18th Chula Rajamontri, a testament to his steadfast dedication and benevolent influence within the community.
However, the sun had set on an even more tragic occurrence the preceding Saturday. The unfortunate Loh Pitakkumpol, Asis’s 71-year-old brother, fell prey to harmful violence whilst frequenting a local food shop in the humble Moo 4 village of Tambon Hua Khao. Rorhim Kongkalimin, a 47-year-old local resident, emerged as the alleged perpetrator of this atrocious act. The police, in their ongoing investigation, suspect that Kongkalimin might have been under the destructive spell of narcotics at the time of his assault on Loh, a man with whom he had no prior acquaintance.
As the community rallies to mourn and remember these shocking incidents, Asis’ memory will live on, revered for his impressive contributions and remembered for his monumental influence on the community as a whole.
