It is with profound sadness that we relay the news of a devastating motor collision that claimed two lives yesterday. The heart-wrenching incident took place at the renowned Phra Phutthabat Namthip Temple, located in the serene Phu Phan district of Sakon Nakhon province. The somber event left an enduring impression on onlookers and invoked a wave of solidarity as the news rapidly spread through the temple’s Facebook page, Wat Phra Phutthabat Namthip, Phu Phan, and Nakhon.
The distressing turn of events unfolded around the hour of 5.07 pm in front of the holy establishment. Two pickup trucks were embroiled in the catastrophe, both of whom were reportedly exceeding safe driving speeds. One vehicle was traveling from the busy streets of Sakon Nakhon, while the other was journeying from the historical province of Kalasin. Both trucks tragically collided on the steep incline leading towards the temple.
The horrifying scene took the lives of both drivers – in one of the vehicles, a mother, who up to her dying breath, held precious her 10-month old child. The temple’s conscientious workers attended promptly to the baby, safeguarding his life by rushing him to Phu Phan Hospital. In the other vehicle, a male driver tragically lost his life.
Upon the incident’s publication online, heartfelt condolences permeated across the platform, invoking a poignant sense of loss and sorrow in the community.
The temple’s responsible attendants reported hearing the calamitous crash that sounded ominously like a vehicle collision, minutely differed from the peaceful prayers typically dominating the serene atmosphere of the temple. Upon immediate investigation, they discovered the lifeless body of the male driver of a white Isuzu D-Max pickup truck. The unfortunate soul was later identified as 66-year-old Somjit, a local of Phichit district.
A call for help led to the discovery of the other afflicted vehicle, a four-door Isuzu D-Max pickup truck. Inside, a young 40-year-old woman was clutching her infant son, gasping for air. The nearby monk, Yutth, offered assistance in removing the child – a request she granted moments before tragically treating her last breath. Meanwhile, the driver, a 50-year-old gentleman, was trapped amidst the wreckage. After an intense effort from the emergency response team, he was extracted and hurried to the hospital.
Eyewitnesses recounted the events leading to the tragic accident – a day earlier with a calm aura disturbed by the tumultuous sound of speeding vehicles. The two pickup trucks involved in the horrendous crash held opposing trajectories – one heading from Sakon Nakhon towards Kalasin and another from Kalasin. The single-cab pickup from Sakon Nakhon, in a reckless maneuver, tried overtaking and tragically collided with the oncoming four-door pickup from Kalasin.
The calamitous scene caused immediate fatalities and injuries. The white pickup’s driver tragically lost his life right at the spot. The four-door pickup had the child and driver injured and unfortunately culminated in the young mother’s death.
The investigative team from the local police is currently reviewing all potential causes and collecting evidence from the crash site. As per Sanook’s reports, an official statement regarding the fatal accident’s possible causes will be out soon as extensive investigation continues.
