In Pathum Thani province, a region situated north of the vibrant city of Bangkok in Thailand, a grueling road accident marked a tragic day. Two dedicated university students tragically lost their lives while a fellow student sustained injuries. All this happened when a six-wheel truck violently crashed into the students’ motorcycle. Following this heartbreaking incident, the truck driver, shaken and stirred, reported himself to the local civil authorities.
The gripping chronicle of this horrendous incident had its unfolding around 2.40 am, local time, on the Rangsit-Nakhon Nayok Road near the renowned Chomphu Bridge in the Thanyaburi district. As the first responders reached the accident venue, they discovered the victims on the extreme right side of the road. Among these young lives, two had sadly already slipped away, cementing the severity of the mishap.
The victims, known as Thakun and Yarinda, were both bright-eyed 19-year-olds from Si Sa Ket and Ayutthaya respectively. These young souls were pursuing their academic dreams at the highly esteemed North Bangkok University’s Faculty of Communication Arts. Their abrupt demise has left a permanent void in the hearts of their classmates and faculty members.
About 100 meters from the grim location, the relics of what once was a Honda motorcycle laid shattered and distorted beyond recognition. The bike bearing the license plate 6KP-3602 Bangkok was spotted on the road’s left side, hinting at the severity of the impact. Around the same location, the first responders found Ekarat— a 21-year-old survivor from Narathiwat, who luckily escaped death’s grasp. The medical team swiftly transferred him to the Bangpakok 2 Rangsit Hospital to receive urgent care.
Not long after the incident, the truck driver, Suron, a 38-year-old local from the region, reported to the Pratunam Chulalongkorn Police Station. Accompanying him was his six-wheel Isuzu lorry with license plate 83-2406 Pathum Thani that bore visible damage on its right and front sides. The insurer reached out to Suron with the details regarding the case, following which he volunteered the information to the police.
Suron, a usually competent driver, narrated his account of the unfortunate incident. Catastrophe struck him during a routine drive from Thanyaburi towards Sukhumvit. Amidst rain showers, he spotted the motorcycle in the middle lane, attempted to avoid it, flashed his headlights to alert them, but lost control. The loss of control eventually led him to hit a barrier, resulting in a devastating crash into the motorcycle, leading to the untimely demise of the two students. Completely shattered, Suron expressed profound sorrow and extended his deepest condolences to the families and friends of the deceased.
Officer Phanumat assiduously inspected the accident site for more evidence. Photographs were captured, objects cataloged, and an on-site autopsy was conducted on the deceased. Meanwhile, eyewitnesses, friends, and acquaintances of the deceased were called for additional inquiries at the police station as part of the continuing investigation, reported by local news outlet KhaoSod.
Suron, grappling with the weight of his actions, was held accountable and was preliminarily charged for reckless driving culminating in death. The lifeless bodies of the two victims were entrusted to the careful hands of the officers from the Por Tek Tung Foundation. The bodies were sent to the Institute of Forensic Medicine, Ministry of Justice, for post-mortem examination. In the light of these grim proceedings, arrangements were initiated to allow the family members to reclaim their loved ones and perform the much-needed final rites.
