In a dramatic turn of events, a hostage was rescued from his armed abductors when he cried for help as their car approached a police checkpoint in Bangkok’s Min Buri district early Tuesday morning. The hostage’s five alleged captors, who were traveling in two vehicles, were arrested and six guns with 61 rounds of ammunition were seized.
The incident occurred around 12:30 a.m. when traffic police manning a drink driving test station on Rom Klao Road heard a desperate plea for help from inside a Chevrolet car. Police immediately stopped the vehicle and another Toyota car that was following it in hot pursuit.
Upon searching the cars, authorities arrested the five suspects and rescued the 40-year old hostage, identified as Uthen. Six guns and a cache of ammunition were discovered in the vehicles, and all the involved persons were taken to the Min Buri police station.
Uthen recounted his harrowing experience to the police, stating he knew one of the suspects but had never had any prior disputes with the gang members. He explained how two of the suspects had confronted him at gunpoint while he was eating at a restaurant in the Rom Klao area and dragged him into their car.
Fearing for his life amid death threats, Uthen seized the opportunity to cry out for help upon spotting a police checkpoint ahead. His sheer relief and gratitude were undeniable when the police intervened and rescued him from his captors.
Pol Col Jamorn Thongphan, superintendent of Traffic Police Sub-division 1, noted that the suspects attempted to flee when the police surrounded their vehicles but were ultimately apprehended. While the suspects admitted to knowing the victim, they refused to reveal any further details of the abduction.
Uthen was taken to a hospital for medical examination, and his family subsequently filed a complaint at the Rom Klao police station against the suspects, accusing them of physical assault and illegal detention. Pol Col Jamorn announced that the Min Buri police would press initial charges of illegal possession of weapons against the suspects, who are being held at the Min Buri police station.
The five suspects, ages ranging from 33 to 41, have been identified as Nukul, Montri, Wissanu, Ekkapong, and Arthit. Authorities continue to interrogate them as the investigation progresses, piecing together the intricate details of this thrilling rescue.
