The alliance of partners at Map Ta Phut and Smart Park industrial estates in the Eastern Economic Corridor is taking steps towards a cleaner, greener future, confirmed by IEAT Governor Veeris Ammarapala on Tuesday. These prominent industrial areas, swarming with innovation, are conducting detailed studies on the potential role of hydrogen fuel in powering electric buses and contributing to the overall energy generation capacity. This exciting development promises a transformational change in how we view energy production and consumption.
The collaborators involved in this ambitious plan include Bangkok Industrial Gas, Hitachi Zosen Corporation, PTT, Thai Takasago, Toyota Motor Thailand, and Toyota Tsusho (Thailand), all bringing their unique expertise and perspectives to the table. These forward-thinking corporates are not only considering future energy solutions but also observing the establishment of clean-energy firms within the industrial estates, along with setting guidelines for seamless transactions.
Overall, the study is in line with Thailand’s Bio-Circular-Green (BCG) economic model that envisions a low-carbon society. It is indeed a perfect fit with the nation’s vision and is also gathering support from far and wide, including Japan’s New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organisation. This collaboration takes its strength from a 2021 MoU to implement clean energy infrastructure for Smart Park and Map Ta Phut. Ecological sustainability is engrained in its very framework, making it an initiative worthy of recognition.
According to Veeris, the initial phase of this groundbreaking project will prioritize designing energy-infrastructure incorporating renewable resources and hydrogen to enhance clean mobility within the industrial estate. This balanced focus on various forms of sustainable energy promises a multi-pronged approach to combating environmental challenges.
Projections from the study indicate that implementing these changes could potentially lower carbon dioxide emissions arising from the estate by a staggering 73% by 2035. The anticipation of such a substantive improvement further bolsters the credibility and importance of this initiative.
Furthermore, the collaboration is also venturing into the exploration of a free energy transmission system. Simultaneously, the partners are analysing potential incentives to boost investments in the industrial estate’s energy infrastructural development. The overarching goal is to create a robust, sustainable energy ecosystem that can contribute effectively to Thailand’s renewable energy aspirations.
