In an aftermath of a startling occurrence at the Siam Paragon shopping mall on a typically peaceful Tuesday evening, where a shooting incident took place, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has come forward assuring comprehensive safety measures to ensure the confidence of foreign tourists in Thailand. This statement was made clear by the TAT’s Governor, Thapanee Kiatphaibool, through her follow-up announcements concerning the unfortunate incident.

Gov. Thapanee detailed how the TAT has been attentively following this distressing event, initiating necessary actions to handle the situation and provide reassurances to the international visitors. Keeping the safety of tourists as a priority, she exposed the decision of the TAT to ally with other concerned government sectors to bolster the security provisions explicitly catering to foreign tourists.

The agency is also set on channeling communication with other government branches to extend financial aid to the grieving family of the Chinese tourist, who tragically lost their life in this horrifying incident, she added. Moving further, Gov. Thapanee broadcasted the TAT’s commitment to catalyze awareness programs that would function on short, medium, and long-term bases, aiming to resurrect the shaken faith of foreign tourists in Thai tourism.

Concurrently, the Ministry of Tourism and Sports has also made its stand clear post this tragic event. Minister Sudawan Wangsuphakijkosol, expressing deep condolences to the bereaved families, specifically mentioned the deceased Chinese tourist who recently arrived in Thailand on September 27, taking advantage of the visa-free campaign for Chinese tourists.

In an endeavour to manage this crisis with efficiency, the Tourism Ministry, in conjunction with the Foreign Ministry, established a situation command center at the Foreign Ministry. This center will serve as a medium to keep foreign embassies updated about the prevailing circumstances, and it will also coordinate with families of the victims affected by this grievous incident.

In this bid to manage the crisis, they revealed that five more people were injured by this dread event, including another Chinese tourist and a Laos national. To a question about whether this event might cast a shadow over the government’s strategy of attracting more tourists through visa-exemption policies, Minister Sudawan held high the ministry’s determination to expeditiously regain confidence among the international tourists despite this serious setback.
