Thai exports in general—and particularly those in the agriculture sector—enjoyed an impressive surge in demand from China over the course of the last year. Narumon highlighted that traditional Thai fruits, like durians, were much beloved by the Chinese consumers, ensuring a steady inflow of revenue for the exporters.

The Chinese diplomat expressed an enthusiastic willingness to further strengthen the collaborative projects between Global Multimodal Logistics (GML), an offshoot of PTT, and the Marketing Organization for Farmers (MOF). The primary objective of their coordinated efforts is to guarantee the consistent quality of agricultural exports from Thailand to China, along with maintaining regular inspection routines to uphold product standards.

Besides, the Thailand-Laos-China railway route is an ongoing joint venture anticipated to immensely increase the reach of Thai agricultural products among Chinese consumers. This strategy aims at significantly enhancing market penetration and access, thereby providing a substantial boost to the economy, Narumon explained.

They also delved into potential cooperative prospects in the domain of clean energy. The highlight was Thailand’s initiative to establish themselves as the ultimate hub for electric vehicle (EV) production within ASEAN. Han Zhiqiang mentioned that several Chinese EV manufacturing companies have already established their foothold in Thailand. He further assured that the Thai government has the willingness to extend their support to nurture these investments perpetually.

Regarding collaboration on upscale labour force development in Thailand, the Chinese Ambassador expressed his country’s readiness to back this initiative. He shed light on how China is presently offering training for the personnel engaged in the high-speed rail industry in Ayutthaya. Additionally, they are also in alliance with the Department of Skill Development to impart and develop the digital skills of the Thai population.

Narumon made a concluding statement, “The fruitful discussion held with the Chinese Ambassador today signals an optimistic scope for extending our cooperation. It will serve as the driving force for the sustainable economic growth of both Thailand and China.” China continues to be a pivotal trading ally for Thailand. It stands proudly at first place in terms of companies investing in Thailand while bagging the second position in Thai exports.
