The Hotel Act stipulates that the property owner could be punished with up to a year in prison, a fine of up to 20,000 baht, or both. Pornchai claims they attempted to book one of the village’s pool villas after finding it. After foreigners wreaked havoc at an illegal pool home, residents of View Point Village in Pattaya’s Bang Lamueng neighborhood lodged a complaint with the authorities. They learned that the lodging could be reserved on a daily basis and that most of the visitors were foreign nationals.
The owner was instructed to cease operations right away. A fine of up to 10,000 baht per day would be imposed on her if she didn’t comply. A number of locals were worried that more properties in the vicinity were operating illegally unregistered pool villas and that they would attract disorderly foreigners when Assistant District Officer Pornchai Sung-iad examined the View Point Village, where numerous houses operate as pool villas. The female housekeeper of the pool villa was arrested by police after they spoke with her about allegedly running a hotel without a license.
