In a heart-wrenching incident that has captured the attention of many, a three-year-old girl was rescued by government officials after a disturbing video surfaced online. The footage, which rapidly went viral, depicted a young child suffering physical abuse at the hands of her mother in a barbecue restaurant located in the Isaan province of Khon Kaen. The events unfolded on the night of Tuesday, May 6, and were caught by the restaurant’s CCTV cameras. The restaurant owner, motivated by concern for the child, uploaded the video to social media in a bid to summon help.
The shocking clip reveals the mother, identified as 32-year-old Mui, engaging in a terrifying display of aggression. The video shows her hurling rocks at her daughter, who is seated innocently on a chair, followed by an assault with chopsticks, and culminating in a dousing with water from a plastic bottle. To add to the horror, Mui is heard yelling harsh words at her daughter, commanding her to go home in an angry and derogatory manner before she leaves, abandoning the sobbing child sitting alone.
Fortunately, quick-thinking restaurant staff came to the child’s aid, gently drying her with tissues before reuniting her with her mother, who was waiting outside on a motorcycle. The intervention was prompted by the staff’s earlier warning to Mui about the potential dangers of throwing rocks indoors.
In response to the incident, officials from the Khon Kaen Provincial Social Development and Human Security Office made a prompt visit to Mui’s residence on Wednesday, May 7. A subsequent drug test administered to Mui came back negative; however, she admitted to past drug use, confessing that she had taken methamphetamine, commonly known as Yaba, a fortnight ago. Additionally, she acknowledged the assault on her daughter. Considering the gravity of the situation, authorities placed the little one in temporary protective care at a local shelter.
Efforts are now being made to support Mui with a community leader assigned to visit her regularly. These visits aim to monitor her mental health and oversee her rehabilitation from substance use. There is hope that, provided Mui shows improvement and no further incidents occur, she will be able to reunite with her daughter when the new school term starts on May 16.
Adding another layer to this tragic tale, Chalida “Ton Or” Palamart, founder of the charitable organization Be One, disclosed that this was not the first occurrence of neglect from Mui. It seems that the young girl was once left to play unsupervised in the middle of a road, a dangerous situation defused only by the quick actions of local residents who safely brought her to safety.
In the face of such troubling events, it is a relief to witness the swift action taken by authorities and community members, who have shown immense dedication in protecting those most vulnerable. While the path to healing and recovery may be long for this family, the collective hope remains that brighter days lie ahead for the young girl currently in protective care.
I can’t believe a mother would treat her child like this! It’s so heartbreaking.
It’s horrible, but we have to remember that substance abuse can alter behavior drastically.
True, but it doesn’t excuse such actions. I hope she gets the help she needs.
I agree, everyone deserves a chance to change, but the child’s safety should come first.
Why do these videos always have to go viral before action is taken?
I’m just glad the child is safe now, but this isn’t the first time something like this has happened in Khon Kaen.
It seems like authorities are trying their best, but they can only act on what they see or know.
Yeah, they need more resources to prevent these cases before they blow up.
This story is a shocking reminder of the vulnerabilities within our family structures. I hope more social intervention measures are put in place.
Hopefully, the rehabilitation programs for Mui are effective. If not, the government needs to reassess their approach.
Rehabilitation can be slow, but thoroughness is key. Quick fixes never last.
You can’t just trust that she’ll stop using drugs. More permanent action might be needed.
I agree. Relapse is common and putting the child back with her too early could be risky.
Exactly, and the child’s well-being should be the priority here.
It’s good to see charities involved. We need more grassroots organizations stepping in to support these families.
True, but they can’t do it alone. They need more government support.
I can’t fathom how a mother could reach such a point, despite any substance abuse issues.
This situation is so tragic. I hope the girl gets all the love and support she needs now.
Yes, placing her in protective care was the best move for her safety and well-being.
Abandoning a child on the street shows a pattern of neglect. Authorities should be on high alert.
Exactly. This pattern of behavior might not stop without serious intervention.
Agreed. Continued monitoring is crucial in cases like these.
Getting off drugs is really hard, but hopefully, Mui is willing to make that change.
It’s a community’s responsibility to watch over these issues. This could have ended much worse without their help.
Do you think this child will ever trust anyone again after such betrayals?
Hopefully with counseling, she can heal and find trust again. These are formative years.
We need more transparency on what measures are being taken to prevent these cases from escalating.
Transparency is key, but sometimes these cases are more complex and can’t always be fully disclosed.
