This exhilarating contest extends a golden opportunity for participants to learn directly from the masterminds behind over 40 successful businesses, honing their entrepreneurial skills and resonating with the brand’s vision of nurturing a community of knowledgeable and empathetic individuals.

Dr. Vithaya Sintharapantorn, Senior Vice President of Project Marketing for MQDC, the mastermind behind “Whizdom Craftz Samyan,” expressed his enthusiasm about partnering with CEO Chula on this venture. He highlighted that “Beat the Biz 2024 by Whizdom Craftz Samyan” is meticulously curated for Chulalongkorn University students with entrepreneurial dreams.

“Contestants stand to gain a plethora of skills and knowledge essential for launching their own enterprises directly from seasoned business owners,” said Dr. Vithaya. “This competition is the perfect embodiment of our brand’s ethos and MQDC’s mission to disseminate knowledge, fostering a community of smart, good-hearted people.”

Adding to the excitement, he noted, “As Whizdom Craftz Samyan integrates into the Samyan-Rama IV-Bantad Thong-Yaowaraj community, we are elated to champion ‘Beat the Biz 2024’. This project offers students a remarkable platform to voice their innovative ideas and showcase their prowess in developing business models before stepping into the real business arena.”

Dr. Vithaya elaborated that the contest would equip students with strategic plans, enhancing their potential to succeed in careers or as entrepreneurs. “We are confident that participants will significantly bolster their ability to contribute to the nation’s development,” he added.

Mr. Run Tangkijngamwong, CEO of Chula, shared his insights on the annual event. As the fifth installment for Chulalongkorn students eager to launch businesses, “Beat the Biz 2024 by Whizdom Craftz Samyan” is an excellent launchpad for students aiming to start small or medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), the backbone of the Thai economy.

Mr. Run emphasized that CEO Chula is dedicated to assisting students from diverse faculties and academic years who are passionate about business and eager to engage in interactive, hands-on learning experiences. “Teams participating in the contest can expect a plethora of unique and thrilling experiences blending knowledge with fun,” he said.

The competition promises to immerse contestants in the intricacies of business-building right from the ground up. They will benefit from expert consulting sessions and an opportunity to present their projects in the “Final Pitch” after nearly two months. The “Final Pitch” will be a grand event, attended by a distinguished judging panel and numerous guests.

From October 6 to November 16, 2024, participants will have the privilege of learning from over 40 renowned business owners acting as mentors. These mentors will provide invaluable advice and cool business tips. Post-contest, teams can showcase their products at the CEO Festival, one of the university’s most celebrated events, attracting over 8,000 attendees last year.

Expressing his gratitude, Mr. Run stated, “I, along with CEO Chula’s 45-member team, extend our heartfelt thanks to all the participating organizations. We are thrilled about this year’s event and are optimistic that it will invigorate and inspire budding entrepreneurs beyond the Chula student body. Each year, we anticipate even greater accomplishments. We hope everyone leaves inspired, with the knowledge and guidance to drive sustainable success.”

Mr. Chanawee Homtoey, CEO of Shinkanzen Sushi, and Mr. Varit Bulakul, CEO & Co-Founder of Acai Story, both on the advisory committee, also had high praises for “Beat the Biz 2024”. Reflecting on their four-year journey supporting Chula students, they highlighted the event’s tangible outcomes. These compelling entrepreneurial journeys can serve as a beacon of inspiration for the next generation of business enthusiasts.

This contest sounds fantastic for students! Hands-on learning from successful business owners is priceless.

    • MikeB August 13, 2024

Sure, but how realistic is it for students to start a business right out of university? They need more real-world experience first.

      • Samantha F. August 13, 2024

I disagree, Mike. The earlier they start, the better! Real-world experience can come from these hands-on opportunities too.

      • ProfessorLee August 13, 2024

Both points are valid. Projects like these can provide a great foundation, but additional industry experience is also crucial.

    • Darren O. August 13, 2024

The exposure to 40 business owners as mentors is what’s truly amazing here.

  2. Jonathan R. August 13, 2024

Why all the focus on making money? Education should be about learning, not profit.

    • Kelly M. August 13, 2024

Education should include financial literacy. Knowing how to succeed in business is a crucial skill in today’s world.

    • Chris08 August 13, 2024

Jonathan, entrepreneurship is more than just making money. It’s about innovation and problem-solving.

    • Jonathan R. August 13, 2024

Fair points, Kelly and Chris, but I still believe there should be a balance with other kinds of education.

I love the idea of the ‘Final Pitch’ event. It must be so exciting for the students!

Totally, Amara. It’s like a real Shark Tank! Such a great way to prepare students for the real world.

What if the students’ ideas get stolen by these ‘successful business owners’? It’s a risk.

    • AmyT August 13, 2024

That’s a bit paranoid! Most programs like this have confidentiality agreements.

    • Koen P. August 13, 2024

Who would risk their reputation by stealing student ideas? That’s career suicide.

  5. Patricia Green August 13, 2024

This looks like a golden opportunity for young entrepreneurs. Imagine getting feedback from established businessmen!

    • Jay R. August 13, 2024

Absolutely, the real-world feedback is invaluable. I wish my university had something like this.

  6. TomD August 13, 2024

Another case of universities acting like business incubators. They should stick to education!

    • EricaS August 13, 2024

Why not do both? Universities can be centers of innovation too, Tom. Embrace the change!

    • TomD August 13, 2024

I’m just saying, universities have their role. Too much focus on business can sidetrack other academic pursuits.

  7. Larry Davis August 13, 2024

I think this contest can really inspire students who might not have considered entrepreneurship otherwise.

  8. Jane84 August 13, 2024

It’s not all rosy. Some students might get overwhelmed. There should be support systems in place.

  9. Larry D August 13, 2024

I’m thrilled to see the university supporting SMEs. The Thai economy will benefit from these innovative projects.

  10. Heather S. August 13, 2024

I participated last year and it was life-changing. The mentors gave us insights we never got from textbooks.

Thanks for sharing, Heather! I’m considering joining this year.

  11. Joe August 13, 2024

I hope there’s a strong ethical component to the mentoring. Businesses should also focus on doing good, not just making money.

    • Kathy M. August 13, 2024

Absolutely, Joe. Social entrepreneurship should be a significant part of these programs.

  12. AaronC August 13, 2024

What happens to the students’ projects after the contest? Do they get further support?

    • Samantha F. August 13, 2024

I think they mentioned presenting at the CEO Festival, which can attract more support and attention.

  13. Maya_L August 13, 2024

Chulalongkorn is really stepping up its game with this contest. Proud to be an alumnus!

  14. Terence W. August 13, 2024

It’s great, but let’s not forget the less glamorous side of startups—failure. Are they preparing students for that?

  15. Alice August 13, 2024

With all the support and mentoring, I think students are in better positions to handle setbacks.

  16. Dan_West August 13, 2024

The real challenge will be balancing this with their academic responsibilities. It’s a lot to juggle.
