A law enforcement officer of the lieutenant colonel rank had his service terminated following accusations of demanding 100,000 baht as well as intimate favours from a female motorist. This was reportedly in lieu for dropping a trespassing charge against her, after an unfortunate series of events left her stranded on an eerie roadside in Saraburi province. Furthermore, this troubled woman also shared a terrifying incident involving an unknown man offering assistance in the dim light, who ultimately tried to assault her. Her fearful flight from the man led her to commit the trespassing for which she was charged.
The identity of the distressed woman remains concealed for her protection. She confided in social media activist, Kanthat Pongpaiboonvej, better known by his alias, Kan Chompalang. Kan provided the much-needed support, accompanying her to lodge an initial complaint at Saraburi and later, with Pol Gen Surachate Hakparn, the deputy national police chief. Revealing her ordeal, the woman said the traumatizing events unfolded in October of the previous year in Saraburi province.
She was on her way home late at night when her vehicle gave her trouble and the battery went dead, leaving her helpless on the roadside. A seemingly kind man offered assistance, towing her vehicle towards a house nestled in a remote alley. After giving an assurance to purchase petrol, he left her. With no charge left on her cellular device, she asked for a charger. He pointed towards a room, telling her to find it there. As she entered the room, he swiftly locked the door behind her, attempting to violate her.
She cleverly escaped by requesting to use the restroom, from where she managed to flee by scaling a fence and landing in the neighbouring property. Regrettably, the neighbour accused her of trespassing onto his property after nightfall. She was then taken into police custody on the trespassing indictment. In that very police station, she slapped a molestation charge against the ‘rescuer’, the owner of the first house.
After grasping the severity of the situation, the second homeowner withdrew the unlawful entry charge. However, the police insisted that it was a serious crime and could not rescind the charge. The situation took a further unpleasant turn when a lieutenant colonel promised help in her case, but, surprisingly, demanded 100,000 baht to not forward the case to prosecutors. The woman, being unable to pay the hefty amount, negotiated it down to 10,000 baht. The officer then shockingly proposed to trade the amount for sexual favours.
Addressing her dilemma, Mr Kanthat guided her to submit an initial complaint against the alleged officer at Sao Hai police station in Saraburi province. Saraburi police chief, Pol Maj Gen Wichit Boonchinnawutthikul, who also had a detailed conversation with the victim, confirmed on Tuesday that the accused lieutenant colonel, who used to be a police inspector, was sent to Sao Hai police station for administrative work from Muang police station.
Earlier, the accused was under investigation for alleged fraud. The examining committee declared him guilty, recommending his dismissal. The dismissal was under examination when the woman lodged her complaint against him. Pol Maj Gen Wichit ensured complete justice for the victim and emphasised that no officer causing harm to the dignity of the police force would be sheltered.
In the end, Khaosod Online confirmed that Pol Maj Gen Wichit terminated the accused officer following a request by Pol Gen Surachate, who stressed the necessity for careful handling of the case and unbiased justice for all involved parties.
