Denla British School (DBS) of Bangkok has always been driven by its empowering motto, ‘SEMPER AD MAIORA,’ which resounds with the inspirational call to strive ‘Always to Greater Things.’ This pursuit of excellence is omnipresent in every crevice of DB’s educational approach as they equip students with the knowledge, values, and skills essential for soaring as global leaders. Embracing a committed mission within the whirlwind of the 21st-century, DBS fosters holistic growth grounded in five fundamental pillars: an Enhanced British Curriculum, Academic Excellence for All, Entrepreneurship and Creative Thinking, Thai Values in a Global Context, and Wellbeing and Sustainability.

The 2024-25 academic year has blossomed into a harvest of extraordinary achievements, putting DBS students in the limelight, securing accolades and commendations across national and international arenas—setting a trajectory that’s hard to beat! Highlighting their innovative flair, the VEX IQ Robotics National Championship 2025 applauded our Middle School team with the coveted Teamwork Champion and Excellence Awards, while the Elementary School team dazzled with the Create Award and Judges Award. Both squads propelled themselves to the cusp of global recognition, qualifying for the World Championship in the USA.

Not ones to rest on their laurels, DBS’s dance virtuosos pirouetted their way to glory at the ATOD International Dance Competition of 2024 in Brisbane, Australia. Their rhythmical prowess clinching a windfall of awards—including gold medals in Hip Hop solos across the Teen and Junior categories, and a Duo position triumph. Meanwhile, the erudite brains at DBS went to Yale University in the USA for the World Scholar’s Cup—Tournament of Champions 2024 and returned with an impressive haul of 2 trophies, 32 gold medals, and 25 silver medals. This accomplishment solidified their ranking as #1 in Thailand, #2 in Southeast Asia, and #8 on the global leaderboard!

As hearts swelled with pride, the exceptional academic fervor of DBS graduates translated into over 97 university offers, a number that’s steadily climbing. These promising offers include prestigious placements at Russell Group universities and elite institutions across the US, Europe, China, and Thailand. In a triumph for aspirations, more than $6.04 million USD in scholarships have already been won.

DBS is a cradle for nurtured, well-rounded individuals who shine not only in academia but also in entrepreneurship, creative arts, and personal growth. The aim is to spin a dynamic web of learning that encourages students to chase their passions while building leadership, resilience, and a spirit of global citizenship.

Mr. Jonny Liddell, the insightful figure helm steering DBS, shares, “Our students’ awe-inspiring accomplishments reflect their unwavering dedication and resilience, woven into the tapestry of the DBS Way. Our commitment is steadfast: arming them with the skills and mindset for navigating an ever-changing world.” Mr. Simon Fowler, the esteemed Deputy Head, echoed these sentiments. “The remarkable success of our students across academics, creative, and entrepreneurial fronts stands testament to our holistic educational approach. We are immensely proud to witness them excelling on esteemed platforms.”

It’s incredible to see such achievements from a school in Bangkok! Who would’ve thought they’d be ranking #1 in Thailand?

    • Susan Thompson March 27, 2025

I agree Joe, it’s impressive! But I wonder how much pressure these students are under to maintain such high performance levels.

      • Joe March 27, 2025

Susan, yeah, the pressure must be intense. But success like this doesn’t come without hard work!

    • User9 March 27, 2025

Success always comes at a cost. Just hope the kids aren’t being sacrificed at the altar of awards and recognition.

      • Susan Thompson March 27, 2025

That’s my concern too. Balance is crucial for young minds.

This is what a well-rounded education looks like! CBS should be a model for other schools worldwide. Not all education systems stress the importance of creativity and entrepreneurship alongside academics.

  3. Jack March 27, 2025

Wow, the scholarships alone are a testament to the quality of education at DBS! $6.04 million is no joke.

    • Maya March 27, 2025

It’s great, but it also highlights how much emphasis there is on going abroad for higher education. Shouldn’t Thailand develop its own world-class universities?

      • Jack March 27, 2025

Maya, true, but isn’t it good that Thai students are getting opportunities on a global stage too?

    • Sam45 March 27, 2025

The brain drain is real. Countries need to find a balance between sending students abroad and retaining talent.

  4. SportsEnthusiast March 27, 2025

What about sports achievements? They focus so much on academics and arts, but sports also play a crucial role in student development. Hope DBS gives equal attention to all-round growth.

    • Nora March 27, 2025

I was wondering the same. Sports cultivate teamwork and discipline. Essential skills for leaders!

    • Tony R. March 27, 2025

Agreed, sports aren’t just games. They’re life lessons in disguise. DBS should invest more in that.

  5. growth+giver March 27, 2025

While I get the importance of global accolades, I wonder what they’re doing to support students who aren’t top performers? Not every child is a genius, and every student matters.

    • Alexis D March 27, 2025

That’s valid! Schools shouldn’t just be about producing high achievers but supporting all kinds of learners.

    • educator101 March 27, 2025

Indeed, an inclusive environment is where real cultivation happens! Let’s hope DBS reflects that in their approach.

Those VEX IQ Championships sound amazing. Robotics is where the future is! Go DBS!

    • User45 March 27, 2025

True, AI and robotics are rapidly advancing fields. Starting young with these skills can open up big opportunities in tech.

    • TechieGirl March 27, 2025

Totally! Imagine the kind of leaders these kids will become with such a head start in robotics.

  7. Larry D March 27, 2025

DBS’s commitment to Thai Values in a Global Context sounds promising. It’s crucial to maintain cultural roots while nurturing global citizens.

  8. CatLover1987 March 27, 2025

The world doesn’t need more elitist educational systems. Why aren’t such resources being channeled into public schools?

    • Jack March 27, 2025

State-funded schools often face resource and staffing challenges. But every school has room to grow.

    • grower134 March 27, 2025

If private schools lead by example, maybe public schools will follow. Shouldn’t blame private entities entirely.
