Deputy Permanent Secretary Chatree Wattanakhajorn Welcomes New Bangkok Civil Servants in 2025

In the bustling heart of Thailand, Bangkok City Hall was buzzing with excitement today as it opened its doors to welcome the latest group of civil servants, handpicked for their outstanding promise and devotion to public service. These newcomers weren’t simply handed a golden ticket; they’ve earned their apprenticeships through sheer grit and determination, vying for coveted spots amidst fierce competition. Chatree Wattanakhajorn, the Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), took center stage at this ceremonious event, delivering an inspiring address to embolden them before they embarked on their vocational journey.

“Welcome and congratulations to all of you who have been selected and appointed as Bangkok Metropolitan Administration civil servants!” Chatree proclaimed passionately within the echoing walls of the grand Rattanakosin Room in Bangkok City Hall. “Each of you has showcased your wisdom and skills, outshining many others to earn your place in the revered ranks of the BMA.”

Chatree wasted no time highlighting the colossal responsibility shouldered by the BMA, a unique local government entity, entrusted with the welfare of over 10 million souls—local residents, migrants, and tourists alike—backed by a budget that soars beyond 90 billion baht. It’s not just any administrative body; it’s the lifeline for a thriving metropolis.

In a city of bustling intersections and vibrant chaos, the governance structure operates as a well-oiled machine, with political officials aligning seamlessly with permanent civil servants to propel urban progress and enrich the lives of every citizen. In his sage advice to the recruits, Chatree urged them to dive into their roles with unyielding effort, endless curiosity, sacrificial love for duty, and, above all, steadfast integrity.

“In this digital era laden with transparency, you will become part of the driving force behind the BMA’s initiatives and policies,” he instructed, stressing the importance of adhering strictly to all legal frameworks. “The era of technology has bestowed us with countless avenues for scrutiny and grievance redressal. Hence, it is paramount to remain in compliance with every law, rule, and regulation to sidestep professional and personal hiccups.”

Channelling wisdom reminiscent of Aristotle, he encouraged them to seek counsel unhesitatingly, be it from seasoned veterans or higher-ups, if the winds of uncertainty ever blew their way. His final words were blessings of success, robust health, and the potential to propel Bangkok’s march toward greatness, ensuring the city’s status as a beacon among Asia’s leading metropolises.

The new appointees represent the triumph of a meticulous recruitment drive drawn from competitive exams held across 2023 and 2024, with additions from a specialized selection in 2024. Of the 22 originally projected slots, an impressive 161 candidates reported for duty by June 17, 2025. This vibrant group includes 113 fresh recruits, some transferring within the BMA, while 40 chose to relinquish their appointments.

Amidst this flurry of appointments, the Personnel Office has strategically deployed the 113 novitiates into 20 specialized roles for their trial period. These roles range from Tourist Development and Foreign Relations Officers to Finance and Accounting maestros, uniting under the banner of BMA to sculpt a brighter future for Bangkok:
