Electrifying Arrest: Bangkok Cable Thieves Shocked in Crime

In a shocking turn of events, two would-be cable thieves in Bangkok got an electrifying shock to the system, quite literally! Attempting to pinch electrical lines, the duo met with a live wire of consequences, ending up with severe injuries and issuing an unintended blackout — talk about getting caught in the act! The whole fiasco set back the system by several million baht, leaving quite the buzz (pun intended) for the local authorities.

It was a routine Thursday morning when the Metropolitan Police Division 9, led by the diligent Pol Maj Gen Komsit Rangsai, picked up three suspects, thanks to a clue or two that led them right to the scene. Among the arrests were Chaiyachana Boonmang, 38, Kittisak Srilawong, 27, and the youthful Jakkrit Hemsanthia, 23, each found with a motorcycle formerly fleet of feet, 35 cable slices (not your average pizza toppings), wire cutters, and an extra stash—a cheeky 1.1 grams of crystal methamphetamine.

Under the cloak of darkness, these seasoned cable crooks had already had their mitts on a few strands over in Bang Khun Thian and the Bang Bon neighborhoods. Yet, it seems the powers (no, not those powers…) that be had a different plan this time. Their allies in misdeeds, Kritsada Sombun, 31, and Apisit Srilasak, 27, seemed to have gone off the radar and remain on the loose, still weaving through the back alleys of Bangkok.

As the police dug deeper, it turned out this wasn’t their first rodeo. The gang had previously managed to swipe 12 meters of high-voltage lines from a buzzing seafood buffet joint—unintentionally serving a side of chaos with the calamari. But when Kritsada and Kittisak attempted another high-wire act opposite a convenience store in Bang Bon, karma struck as swift as lightning. The shock left their hands worse for wear, along with three disarmed cables, racking up damages worth a cool 1.5 million baht. That’s one expensive electric buzz!

Facing charges for the theft of public utility property, each suspect now has their hands tied, so to speak. Chaiyachana, further electrifying his rap sheet, also faces additional charges of meth possession, while Kittisak and Jakkrit are booked for using drugs. They’re now in the custody of Thakham police, gearing up for their next show: the courtroom drama of the season.

While Bangkok’s electrical heartbeat gets back on track, this shocking episode reminds would-be criminals that life on the high wires isn’t all it’s cracked up to be—especially when the wires bite back!

Honestly, these cable thieves got what they deserved. messing with live wires is dangerous and outright stupid!

    • MrRoboto42 May 15, 2025

Totally agree! It’s pretty incredible they survived the shock. Maybe next time they’ll think twice…

      • SamanthaLee May 15, 2025

Hope there isn’t a next time. But with the meth involved, I guess rational thinking isn’t exactly their forte.

    • EducatedElite May 15, 2025

While their actions were certainly misguided and dangerous, it’s worth considering the socio-economic factors that drive individuals to crime. Not saying they deserve sympathy, but understanding is key to preventing future incidents.

What a waste of resources. Now the city’s got to repair everything and those guys barely got anything from it!

    • Max_Power May 15, 2025

True, but perhaps this situation will deter future criminals, saving more resources in the long run.

  3. Gregory72 May 15, 2025

The hilarious irony here is that they probably thought they’d get big bucks and ended up electrocuted instead!

    • ThiefJudge May 15, 2025

Karma at its finest! But seriously, the thrill some people seek without considering if it’s worth the risk is absurd. Their lives are changed forever and not for the better.

Crystal meth and cable theft. Such an odd combination of crimes, but here we are in 2023!

    • Streetwise10 May 15, 2025

Living in tough times, people resort to desperate measures. But getting high and jotting down electricity cables isn’t a wise move, right?

  5. Larry D May 15, 2025

Props to the cops for catching these guys before more damage was done. We need more efficient law enforcers like them.

  6. Anonymouscheetah May 15, 2025

Those guys are lucky it didn’t end much worse, playing with electricity can be deadly!

    • Electrician101 May 15, 2025

You’re spot on. As an electrician, I’m amazed at the risk they took for a few wires. One wrong move and lights out forever…

  7. ConnieA205 May 15, 2025

Can’t believe the damage was worth millions! That’s insane!

    • Joe May 15, 2025

Yeah, fixing electrical work is expensive like you wouldn’t believe. They must’ve hit some critical parts.

  8. RealityCheck345 May 15, 2025

This is a classic case of criminal stupidity. Society needs to address underlying issues that lead people to such low-yield crimes.

    • MsSmartyPants May 15, 2025

Well, it might be low-yield in terms of cash, but high-risk seems like an understatement!

  9. SockPuppet55 May 15, 2025

I hope authorities will now keep an eye out for other crimes like this. Criminals shouldn’t think they can get away with it!

  10. StreetStrategist May 15, 2025

What’s really surprising is how they thought they could sell the wire for a profit after getting high. Probably wasn’t the most thought-out plan!

    • LostInThought May 15, 2025

Meth dulls your capacity for planning. It’s no wonder they run headlong into electrified cables!

  11. Larry D May 15, 2025

It’s clear we need more public education on the consequences of messing with infrastructure. Ignorance is often the culprit.

  12. UnseenObserver May 15, 2025

This serves as a stark reminder of the dangers lurking in every corner of the city if these criminals aren’t caught.
