The irresistibly adorable antics of baby pygmy hippo Moo Deng have ignited an extraordinary fervor for her whimsical species, luring visitors not just to Khao Kheow Open Zoo in Chon Buri, but to zoological parks far and wide. Moo Deng, whose name whimsically translates to “bouncy pig,” has become a planet-wide darling of the internet, thanks to her captivating cuteness.
Weekends at Khao Kheow Open Zoo are now bustling with activity as people flock from all corners to witness Moo Deng’s playful charm. The Moo Deng mania is so powerful that it’s spilling over and drawing crowds to other zoos with pygmy hippopotamus exhibits.
Over at Ubon Ratchathani Zoo, the echoes of Moo Deng’s fame have resonated deeply. Pictures and videos of seven-month-old “Moo Khaki” (adorably nicknamed “pork knuckles”) went viral, leading to a remarkable 20% increase in visitor numbers. Zoo director Tanob Siripiyanak joyfully noted that Khaki has become quite the local star, thanks to the Moo Deng effect.
Meanwhile, at Nakhon Ratchasima Zoo, a place once known for its tranquil hippo zone, excitement has surged. People are now flocking to see Moo Deng’s aunt, the charmingly named “Moo Manao” (spicy garlic lime pork). In light of her newfound fame, the zoo has announced plans to find Moo Manao, who is at the ideal age of eight for breeding, a suitable mate to continue the pygmy hippo legacy.
At Khon Kaen Zoo, the family spotlight is on five-month-old “Duang Maphrao” (endearingly known as “Moo Duang”), whose beetle-like antics are pulling in hordes of visitors. Moo Duang, with her coconut-based nickname, is proving to be quite the crowd-puller herself.
Not to be left out, Chiang Mai Zoo also boasts a pygmy hippo enclosure. This offers yet another delight for those far from Chon Buri to experience the enchanting world of Moo Deng’s extended family, bringing the joy and wonder of these charming creatures to a wider audience.
So, the next time you plan a visit to a zoo, keep an eye out for these lovable pygmy hippos. Their buoyant spirits and captivating personalities are sure to provide not just a wondrous experience, but also an unforgettable story to share!
