Pattaya Heist: Anirut Thiamtha Falls Victim to Fake Food Delivery Scam

In the bustling seaside city of Pattaya, where the aroma of street food wafts through the air and the scooters zip around like bees, a tale as old as time unfolded: a cunning heist, courtesy of an audacious impersonator. This escapade, marked by its audacity and finesse, was orchestrated by a scam artist disguised as a food delivery rider. It happened in the sleepy streets at the crack of dawn, 5:06 AM to be exact, on July 21st.

It was a mere 30-year-old local named Anirut Thiamtha who was managing his family’s quaint Chef Basil Curry Rice Shop, nestled on the busy Jomtien Second Road. Anirut, a beacon of resilience, offered hearty portions of curry rice at only 35 baht, serving the struggling community while unknowingly setting the stage for an elaborate ruse.

The swindler, clad in the deceptive armor of a delivery rider’s uniform, strolled into the shop with smooth talk and unfaltering confidence. He placed an order for 28 takeaway boxes, a number that could feed a small army or perhaps obscure the thoroughhanded theft that was about to take place. Ever helpful, the phony rider offered his assistance in packing them, as Anirut labored to prepare the affordable feast for his neighbors.

While Anirut was engulfed in the culinary whirlwind of his kitchen, the counterfeit delivery man seized the moment to execute his ploy. Swift as a shadow, he snatched a shoulder bag brimming with 6,000 baht, a precious gold ring, and a sacred temple amulet. “He said he had to refuel his bike,” Anirut lamented to the Pattaya police, his heart heavy with the sting of betrayal.

Adding salt to injury, the pretender vanished without compensating for the stash of meals, leaving Anirut more than a thousand baht poorer and perplexed. Authorities, led by Police Sub-Lieutenant Wuthinan Kongdee, diligently work on reviewing CCTV footage to unravel the escape route of this impudent thief.

Meanwhile, in an action-packed twist worthy of the silver screen, Thai police disrupted a juvenile-led motorcycle heist operation on the outskirts of town. Just days prior, on July 16th at 2:30 PM, the notorious “Little Tycoon,” a mere 17-year-old ringleader, found himself clasped within the tight embrace of justice. He and his partner-in-crime were apprehended in Soi Takhian Tia, Bang Lamung, whilst allegedly plotting to sneak six purloined motorbikes across the nearby Laotian border.

This riveting sting operation, a collaborative effort of the Bang Lamung and Nong Kham police forces, resulted in the recovery of the hot wheels. The mopeds, swiped from various corners of Pattaya, were the ill-gotten gains of a larger network seemingly captained by this teenage mastermind, whose knack for clandestine commerce was beginning to unfurl. With investigations unfurling further, one wonders how many more astonishing arrests might follow.

In a city that never sleeps, where motorcycles hum like lullabies and curry stalls are as common as the tide, such gripping sagas remind us of Pattaya’s dynamism. Though Anirut carries the misfortune of becoming an unintentional participant in this outrageous tale, it serves as a poignant reminder to stay vigilant as authorities work to bring the audacious offender to justice.

This is absolutely heartbreaking for Anirut. Small businesses are already struggling, and then this happens?

I agree, Brenda. It’s unbelievable that someone would target a hard-working local like this.

It’s not just about money or possessions. It’s the trust that’s broken here.

      • Brenda S July 22, 2025

Exactly, Ravi. Trust is hard to rebuild once someone’s taken advantage of your kindness.

Honestly, Anirut should have been more vigilant. Leaving valuables like that unattended is just asking for trouble!

That’s a bit harsh, don’t you think? He’s just trying to make an honest living.

    • Samantha Lee July 22, 2025

While it’s important to be careful, the real blame lies with the thief. No excuse for what he did.

Crime happens everywhere, but scams in busy tourist spots do seem to be on the rise lately. Sad to see.

The police should deploy more undercover officers in these high-risk areas. Preventive action is key!

    • detective23 July 22, 2025

Resources are limited, Chris. Can’t have cops on every corner, unfortunately.

  5. Anna H July 22, 2025

That ‘Little Tycoon’ story is insane! A 17-year-old leading a theft ring?

Teenagers these days are getting more audacious. It’s a reflection of societal issues at large.

I feel bad for the people who actually paid for food deliveries only to fall victim to similar scams.

    • donut_master July 22, 2025

That’s why you should always check credentials! But who even thinks about that when they’re hungry?

  7. Ben GP July 22, 2025

Pattaya sounds like a movie plot sometimes, especially with such high-stake heists!

  8. Melanie T July 22, 2025

It’s like you have to be on guard all the time. Exhausting to live this way!

    • Chris July 22, 2025

Agreed, Melanie. It ruins the carefree vibe cities like this are supposed to have.

  9. Andy Z July 22, 2025

With all the tech at our fingertips, you’d think it’d be easier to track these thieves down.

  10. Yvonne12 July 22, 2025

Does anyone know if Anirut was able to recover anything? Such a huge loss for him.

    • Raúl July 22, 2025

No news yet, Yvonne. It’s likely a complex case since the thief disguised himself as a delivery guy.

  11. Tom Wise July 22, 2025

There’s something poetic about how audacious the thief was. Not condoning it, just saying.

  12. Garcia299 July 22, 2025

If the authorities don’t catch this guy soon, it’ll just embolden others to copycat him.

  13. Natalie K July 22, 2025

Pattaya used to be so different, wasn’t it simpler and safer in the past?

  14. Sam B July 22, 2025

Got to give credit to the police who caught ‘Little Tycoon’. Some good news.

  15. Brenda S July 22, 2025

Keep your eyes and ears open, everyone. Can’t let our guard down for a second!
