With a move to curb further speculation, Phumtham remarked to media present, “There’s no need to go into detail. It’s not a border violation issue.” The diplomacy and calmness shown by both sides brought a soothing end to what could have been an alarming situation. The incident unfolded near Sangkhla Buri district, a critical zone along the Thai-Myanmar border, known for increased military drills recently, amid regional unrest.
