In light of the escalating issue of PM2.5 pollution in Thailand, a collaboration between EGAT researchers and inventors has led to the development of an innovative air purification tower specifically designed for use in communities. Boonyanit Wongrukmit, EGAT governor, revealed that this cutting-edge machine is capable of capturing more than 80% of PM2.5 and can purify a staggering 30,000 cubic meters of air per hour, covering an area within 250 meters.
Initially, these air purification towers are being installed in EGAT-controlled areas, allowing the agency to further enhance their efficacy. Boonyanit mentioned that in the future, these innovative machines will be deployed to other regions, particularly in Northern Thailand, where PM2.5 pollution is a pressing concern.
Standing at six meters tall and weighing in at six tonnes, this groundbreaking invention combines plasma generation techniques with electric charge generation to effectively capture PM2.5 particles. Boonyanit also highlighted the additional benefits of this research, stating, “Moreover, the knowledge from this research can be applied to dust filter efficiency measurement of other protective devices like facemasks and air purifiers at home.”
PM2.5, or fine dust particles less than 2.5 micrometers in diameter, can pose a fatal risk to human health. Prolonged exposure to PM2.5 has been demonstrated to cause significant damage to the respiratory system and blood vessels. By developing these air purification towers, Thailand is taking a proactive approach towards reducing the dangerous impact of this deadly pollutant on the population.
In summary, the introduction of air purification towers in Thailand marks a significant step towards combating the ever-increasing problem of PM2.5 pollution. With thousands of cubic meters of air being purified every hour, the potential of this novel invention holds promise for the future, particularly in areas like Northern Thailand where PM2.5 concentrations continue to reach worrisome levels. By utilizing cutting-edge plasma generation techniques and electric charge generation, these towers are effective in capturing the majority of PM2.5 pollution in the air. Furthermore, this technology offers exciting opportunities for optimizing the efficiency of other protective devices such as facemasks and air purifiers, ensuring a cleaner and healthier living environment for all.
