Boosting Thailand’s Tourism with NFTs

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has recently introduced a non-fungible token (NFT) project in collaboration with Crypto City Connext and over 30 other partners. This innovative project aims to strengthen the tourism industry in the country through the use of digital coupons featuring TAT’s beloved mascot, Nong Sukjai.

Collaboration with Local Artists and IT Companies

The project has engaged over 20 local artists to design various styles of Nong Sukjai for the digital coupons. These digital artworks are integrated with Thailand’s tourist attractions, including Ratchaprasong Road in Bangkok, Nimmanhaemin Road in Chiang Mai, Dibuk Road in Phuket, Khao Niaw Road in Khon Kaen, and Yomjinda Road in Rayong.

Various Types of NFTs during the Trial Phase

During the trial phase of this project, a total of 5,550 digital coupons have been released on April 13. These coupons are categorized into “normal,” “rare,” and “super rare” levels. The rarer the coupon, the more valuable the prize that can be attained by its holder. These NFTs can only be collected by visiting the designated attractions and scanning a QR code.

User-Friendly Experience for Tourists

Keeping in mind the varying levels of technological proficiency among tourists, Hatsathorn Srisuk, the project manager, emphasized that the digital coupon system has been designed to be user-friendly. The NFTs are randomly distributed to visitors, thus creating an element of surprise and excitement for those collecting them.

According to Hatsathorn, “Thailand is the first nation to employ NFT technology to develop a sharing token system that uses tokens as an intermediary to share benefits with tourists and the local community, as well as provide benefits to visitors.”

Expanding the NFT Project Nationwide

The TAT’s long-term vision for the NFT-based digital coupon project is to expand its availability throughout all provinces in Thailand. This innovative initiative is expected to transform the country’s tourism sector and provide a memorable experience for visitors from around the world.
