The DOE has collaborated with several businesses, including MBC Land, MK Restaurant Group, New Travel Lodge, and Surin Sugar, to generate jobs for the elderly, according to director-general Pairoj Chotikasathien. Labor Minister Suchart Chomklin stated on Monday that “the Department of Employment [DOE] has been charged with looking into the employment of people over the retirement age,” adding that 1,007 people over 60 had been given jobs in the 2021 fiscal year. He stated that 148 new posts, including barista, branch manager, customer support representatives, and cooks, had become available.
To address Thailand’s aging population issue and to lessen social inequity, the labor ministry is providing jobs for elders. There are also 199 chances for self-employment, such as selling trees online and creating fortunate stone necklaces. He cited a recent poll of 9,408 senior citizens with the potential to work, finding that 76% of them preferred self-employment, 15% preferred full-time employment, and 9% were comfortable with either. In a recent partnership with the Business Services Alliance, the department hired 100 seniors and people with disabilities to work as customer service representatives at CafĂ© Amazon for Chance, he added. According to him, the top five positions offered to seniors were those in production, housekeeping, security, coaching, and driving. People interested in the DOE can phone the DOE hotline at 1506 and press 2 or 1694, or they can visit the DOE website at www.doe.go.th.
