In the first 10 months of 2022, the internationally renowned island region of Phuket was Thailand’s most popular tourist destination. In the period between January and October, 2.32 million international travelers choose Phuket as their vacation spot. This was followed by Chon Buri with 975,026 tourists, Surat Thani with 606,812 tourists, Songkhla with 581,808 tourists, and Chiang Mai with 496,111 tourists.
According to Deputy Government Spokesperson Tipanan Sirichana, Phuket earned 127.9 billion baht more than any other Thai province from tourism. This was followed by Chonburi with 13,2 billion baht, Surat Thani with 7.5 billion baht, Chiang Mai with 4.2 billion baht, and Songkhla with 3.6 billion baht. Tipanan observed that the Thai people’s collaboration on efficient public health measures has “supported the tourism industry in its V-shaped comeback and welcomed 10 million visitors by the end of the year.” According to Tipaphan, the “Phuket Sandbox” was responsible for the sluggish recovery of the island province from the impacts of the subsequent Covid-19 outbreak. Nation Thailand reported on December 10, 2018, that Thailand has received its 10 millionth visitor so far this year. According to the governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), Thailand is on track to receive around 11 million tourists this year. Over the past 10 months, Malaysians (1.29 million), Indians (698,757), Singaporeans (381,940), Laotians (345,709), Vietnamese (340,670), South Koreans (316,240), British (291,753), Americans (283,211), Cambodians (252,860), and Germans have been Thailand’s top 10 international tourists by nationality (252,860). (235,596). It appears that Phuket has been able to maintain its world-famous status as a popular island vacation destination despite everything it has endured, including Covid’s devastating impact on tourism. Russians are the largest tourist group that may now be found in Phuket. During the month of November, a total of 55,097 Russian visitors visited Phuket. According to Phuket Immigration, Indian tourists constituted the second-largest group of visitors to Phuket that month. They numbered 26,525 in total. Russian tourists constitute the bulk of passengers on chartered flights to Phuket and Pattaya. Less than two weeks after Russian airlines made their triumphant return to the island, Aeroflot has announced that they will be boosting the number of direct flights they offer to Phuket. Aeroflot, Russia’s principal airline, said on November 12 that it will increase by 14 the number of weekly flights departing from Russia to Phuket.
