On the morning of May 25, a shocking incident unraveled in the serene province of Surat Thani, transforming what should have been a typical Thursday into a day of horror and disbelief. Surapong Thongnark, a 34-year-old motorcycle repair technician, set out on a tragic mission that ended fatally outside his ex-girlfriend’s house in the Tha Chana district, forever altering the lives of those woven into his story.

Just two months into a whirlwind romance, things had soured between Surapong and Kan-onraphat. What began as an emotional entanglement quickly turned into an obsessive pursuit when Kan-onraphat decided to end their relationship. Despite her decision, Surapong could not let go. On that fateful day, he visited Kan-onraphat’s residence, hoping to mend their fragmented bond, but the encounter quickly devolved into violence. Surapong assaulted Kan-onraphat, forcing her to seek refuge within the safety of her home, her relatives stepping in to protect her.

Caught in the tempest of thwarted love and rejection, Surapong’s actions spiraled into the extreme. Amidst a flurry of chaotic emotions, he dashed back to his car, producing an explosive device. In a terrifying escalation, he hurled the bomb toward the family members who had sheltered Kan-onraphat. The initial throw was ineffective, granting a fleeting moment of relief. However, as Surapong attempted to cast the bomb again, it exploded right in his hand. The ensuing blast left him lifeless, injuring three of Kan-onraphat’s relatives—73-year-old La-or Rodkird, 68-year-old Samart Janyang, and 40-year-old Sayan Rodkird—with minor injuries.

The roads where children once played saw fragments of ruin and remnants of disaster. A family pickup parked nearby was left with a shattered windscreen, bearing silent witness to the morning’s violence. The scene was a grim tableau, as officers from Tha Chana Police Station scoured Surapong’s car for traces of additional explosives or illicit items. While the search yielded no more bombs, a startling discovery was made—500 grammes of crystal methamphetamine, casting a shadow over the day’s tragic events. The source of the explosive and the drugs remains under investigation, the answers locked within the remnants of Surapong’s troubled last days.

Surapong’s mother, 58-year-old Ranjuan Pimdee, mourned a son she barely recognized at the end of his life. She recounted his life as a simple motorcycle repair technician and his recent obsession over Kan-onraphat. Despite his increasing fixation, none foresaw such devastating violence, not even the mother who now reflected on the son she had long known and inevitably lost.

This heart-rending tale unfurled against the backdrop of headlines both near and far—a sobering reminder of the destructiveness of unresolved anger and untreated sorrow. From motorcycle crashes in Pathum Thani to mysterious deaths in Kanchanaburi, and outrageous daycare abuse in Chachoengsao to violent teenage clashes in Phuket, the stories of the day painted a vivid portrait of life’s unpredictable tapestry, each thread reflecting human fragility. And amidst it all, the stormy echoes of Surat Thani lingered, a testament to love’s potential to destroy when clouded by possessiveness and despair.

This is such a tragic story. It’s awful how love can turn into something so dangerous.

    • Max Carter May 26, 2025

Love didn’t cause this, obsession did. It’s important to recognize the difference.

      • AmyLeon May 26, 2025

You’re right, Max. It’s a real reminder that emotional health is so important.

Why does it seem like people are getting crazier these days? This kind of thing is happening too often!

  3. Sarah H. May 26, 2025

It’s not about ‘craziness’; it’s about the lack of mental health resources. More support could prevent tragedies like this.

    • Techie22 May 26, 2025

Agreed. But isn’t it also about personal responsibility? Surapong made terrible choices.

  4. Paul_M May 26, 2025

The police should have been more vigilant! They found drugs in his car after he exploded a bomb?!

    • Nancy23 May 26, 2025

It’s unrealistic to expect the police to know everyone’s secrets. They can’t mind-read.

    • Paul_M May 26, 2025

Maybe, but there are clear signs that get ignored all the time.

  5. YoungMinds May 26, 2025

Love is not the villain here. It’s the unchecked emotions and inability to handle rejection.

    • Pablo234 May 26, 2025

Exactly. People need to be taught how to cope with rejection rather than retaliate.

How scary, and near a place where kids play too. We need safer communities.

    • Nate88 May 26, 2025

Safer communities start with addressing issues at home first, don’t they?

  7. Lena W. May 26, 2025

It’s heartbreaking for the family too. Imagine being unable to recognize your child in their last moments.

    • MomOf2 May 26, 2025

I can’t imagine that pain. We really need to understand the families of perpetrators more.

    • Lena W. May 26, 2025

True. They’re victims of the situation too, often forgotten.

The real tragedy is not learning from such incidents over and over again.

    • Educator77 May 26, 2025

That requires systemic changes. These conversations need to reach schools and workplaces.

Why was he even allowed near her house again after showing obsessive behavior?

  11. MayaG May 26, 2025

Restraining orders only do so much when someone is truly determined to cause harm.

  12. Steve_W May 26, 2025

These incidents show the flaws in our societal safety nets. We could have prevented this.

Every story like this is a call to action. We need to push for better support systems.
