In the region proximate to the Gaza Strip, there is an estimated population of 5,000 Thai nationals. This area recently became a theatre of increased conflict and missile activity, posing significant risks to the resident Thais.

According to an announcement from the Thai embassy in Israel, the offensive commenced on Saturday. The initial attacks occurred around 6:30am local time, which is equivalent to 10:30am on Thailand’s clocks. The assault saw a barrage of missiles dispatched from the border with the Gaza Strip towards Israel’s interior. Crucially, the central parts of the country, the city of Tel Aviv, and nearby urban areas, including Netivot, found themselves under missile rain.

In response to this crisis, the embassy took swift action to ensure the safety of Thai nationals, producing videos providing step-by-step instructions on what to do if they find themselves amid warning signals for emergency situations.

Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin and Foreign Minister Panpree Phathithanukorn have expressed serious concern for their countrymen and women residing in Israel. Both governmental figures have instructed the Thai embassy to prioritize the welfare of Thai nationals and maintain a close watch on the unfolding situation.

In light of the ongoing offenses, an emergency has been declared by Israel’s authorities. The state of extreme urgency extends to an 80-kilometre radius around the Gaza Strip, enveloping the city of Tel Aviv. Public bomb shelters have been activated in various cities across the country for protecting the residents during these trying times. The Israeli Ministry of Tourism, mindful of the implications of the conflict on visitors, has issued warnings to all tourists in Israel.

The spokesperson for the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs assured that they would be staying abreast of the situation, providing regular updates. To ensure their safety, Thai nationals affected by the crisis can reach out to the Thai embassy via phone on (+972) 546368150. They can also connect with the Operations Centre for the Protection and Welfare of Thai Nationals Abroad on 02 5751047-51 for assistance.
