In the early hours of the morning, an unfortunately severe accident transpired on the bustling Thapratan Highway, also known as Bangna-Trat Road, located at the 43rd Kilometre inbound lane, in the sprawling metropolis of Bangkok. The unfortunate mishap saw a lorry driver gravely injured in a collision. His massive commercial 22-wheeler collided head-on into another stationary lorry comparable in size.
Transpiring around 3am, the response was immediate – officers, medi-teams from the local and reputable Bang Pakong Hospital, alongside the expert team from Chachoengsao rescue units, arrived swiftly at the scene. They came armed with essential vehicle-extraction tools to aid the rescue operation of the vehicular victims. The highway collision manifested between two substantial heavy-duty vehicles – a Hino-branded 22-wheel trailer with mother registration 70-3770 and trailer registration 70-2872 hailing from Prachuap Khiri Khan, and the stationary Yudee-branded 22-wheeler that boasted mother registration 70-5218 and trailer registration 70-2721 from the province of Rayong.
The Hino lorry was driven by a man known as Pongpetch, a robust 34-year-old, who had priorly parked his vehicle on the highway shoulder for a short respite. The impact of the collusion was overwhelming, leaving the second vehicle’s driver, a veteran driver of 45 years, couriersly named Worachit, trapped in the wreckage of his vehicle. During the swift rescue operation, it took the highly-trained officers a mere five minutes to pry him free using modern extraction tools. The extent of damage was such that he sustained a severe injury to his right leg, resulting in nearly total amputation. Thanks to the immediate on-site first aid, Worachit was subsequently rushed to Chularat 11 Hospital for specialised care and further treatment, KhaoSod reported.
In a shocking turn of events, Worachit’s official statement revealed that he was journeying back to Prachuap Khiri Khan when the unfortunate accident unfolded. He recalls that, due to the late hour and prolonged journey, fatigue set in, causing him to lose concentration and doze off momentarily. This lapse led to his vehicle diverting from lane and making forceful contact with the parked 22-wheel lorry, causing the catastrophic event and injury.
In related road safety news, another unfortunate highway collision between a motorcycle and an 18-wheeler took place on Motorway 7. Initial commentary suggests that the motorcyclist colluded with the lorry at high speed and without applying brakes, indicating a high-velocity impact. Also, in the central region of Thailand, a 56-year-old driver, infamous for his heavy drinking habits, lost control of his vehicle and collided with a large 18-wheel lorry in Chachoengsao. His risky drinking habit continued, unabated, even during the solemn Buddhist holidays, raising questions about road safety regulations amidst such incidents.
