The stunning region of Loei, located in northeastern Thailand, has recently witnessed an unprecedented case of elephant cruelty within Phu Luang Wildlife Sanctuary. A plea for assistance has been sent to the Royal Thai Police by the park authorities to uncover and apprehend the perpetrator of such a barbarous act. The victim, a vibrant wild bull elephant, has been confirmed to be the casualty of this horrifying incident.

Initial discovery of this horrific act was made close to a serene forest creek ensconced within the Sri Song Rak sector of the Dan Sai district in the earlier hours of yesterday. Preliminary insight obtained by officials from Phu Luang has shed light on the deceased elephant which is believed to have been part of a transient trio of elephants. Over the recent two months, these elephants had been occasionally spotted near the local farmland.

Park rangers have persistently tried, unfortunately to no avail, to gently guide the wandering trio back into their natural forest habitat. This had duly prompted warnings to the local residents who were advised to be extra vigilant, especially during the nightly latex tapping activities owing to the potential risks associated with these wandering elephants.

Early investigations suggest that the ill-fated elephant was probably around the age of 30 and had been dead for approximately five to seven days before being discovered, according to information reported by the Bangkok Post.

The most unsettling evidence, revealed by Nares Sriburin, a distinguished staff member of the wildlife sanctuary, is that the murdered elephant’s cranium was peppered with six or seven bullet holes. Insights gleaned from the trajectory of these gunshot entries indicate a high likelihood that the lethal shots were fired from a higher altitude. Curiously, it’s theorized that the smallest among the previously wandering trio was deliberately targeted, which further mires this case in profound mystery of the elephant cruelty.

Adding to the sorrowful news from Thailand’s wildlife circles, Tula, an adorable 10-month-old orphaned elephant, despite receiving assiduous care, passed away recently. In order to comprehend the factors that contributed to Tula’s untimely demise, an exhaustive post-mortem examination has been scheduled. The goal of this examination is to reveal any hidden elements that could have potentially exacerbated Tula’s condition, leading to her premature death.
