Enveloped by the exquisite natural beauty of Phu Hin Rong Kla National Park in the mesmerising Nakhon Thai district of Phitsanulok, is Mun Daeng Waterfall. The waterfall endows a bewitching sight visible only once a year, according to the park’s chief, Lamyong Srisawek. This captivating event is marked by the bloom of resplendent flowers, covering every stepped level of the falls, especially the fifth tier.
The meticulously timed blossom of vibrant pink petals against the crisp white curtain of cascading waterfall provides a breathtaking spectacle, making it a captivating muse for avid photographers. Whilst the trek to the waterfall is indeed demanding, the unparalleled splendour of the floral spectacle against the waterfall’s shimmering cascade makes the 4.5-kilometre journey more than rewarding.
Given the rugged path and the pitfalls of the natural terrain, Lamyong Srisawek has some crucial advice for thrill-seekers heading to the falls. He suggests bringing along raincoats, umbrellas, and plastic bags to shield your camera equipment from unexpected showers. Also, wearing long trousers and socks is advisable to fend off any unwarranted interest from leeches. Canvas shoes are recommended to tread through the slippery terrain and aid the climb up the waterfall with greater ease.
Park officials have taken it upon themselves to ensure the safety of the visitors. They guide the tourists through the 4.5 km of scenic park trails, starting from the Mun Daeng park protection station to the waterfall. The adventure doesn’t stop there, as tourists can hike another 1.5km further to the quaint Mun Khao village in Tambon Kok Saphan of Loei’s Dan Sai district. Here they can catch their breath and arrange for transportation to whisk them back to the city.
This picturesque journey through nature’s crowning beauty, undulating trails, and breathtaking landscapes will stir in you a profound appreciation for nature. The petals of the Mun Daeng waterfall, in their ethereal bloom, invite you to lose yourself in their ephemeral yet spectacular display. As the adage goes, the journey is, in fact, the destination, and this trek to the Mun Daeng Waterfall remains a testament to that.
