Joining forces towards a common goal of empowering digital advancements and sustainable work practices according to ESG (economy, society, and environment) principles, AIS and GC are taking their collaboration further. Together, they are reaching out to the university community to advocate the necessity of green technology solutions. They have initiated a project aptly titled “Green University, Dumping, and Recycling for the World to Remember”, which encourages students and staff from 11 universities around Bangkok to partake in a global Garbage Collecting Challenge. Using the E-Waste+ application and GC YOUturn platform, a used plastic management platform, participants are required to collect E-Waste and plastic waste. The goal? To address plastic waste complications and identify the most environmentally conscious institute, which will be granted a scholarship and an Upcycling trophy symbolizing the importance of repurposing used plastic and E-Waste.

Mrs. Saichon Submakudom, AIS Business Relations Unit’s Acting Head of Public Relations, commented on the shared objective of AIS and GC. Their aim is to involve consumers in resolving waste disposal dilemmas, particularly focusing on plastic waste and E-Waste. The “Green University” campaign, carrying the message “Dumping and Recycling (Ting, Turn) for the World to Remember”, was born from this goal. It’s an endeavour to enlighten youth about the significance of sustainable waste disposal, including correct waste separation for recycling, and the contribution it makes towards environmental solutions.

On the other hand, Dr. Chaya Chandavasu, PTT Global Chemical Public Company Limited aka GC’s Sustainability Division’s Executive Vice President, highlighted GC’s pledge to sustainable operations. The usage of the circular economy principles to uplift societal practices is a crucial part of their commitment. Partnering with AIS to foster sustainability via digital technology, GC strides towards achieving their goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to Net Zero by 2050.

The collaborative project, “Green University, Dumping, and Recycling for the World to Remember”, intends to spread the concept of the circular economy and encourage participation from university affiliates. By leveraging the GC YOUturn platform, used plastics are effectively managed by recreating these as raw materials for recycling. This process minimizes environmental degradation and aids in fighting global warming.

Competing institutions in this project range from Mahidol University, Thammasat University, Suan Dusit University, Dhurakij Pundit University, King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok, King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang, King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi, Chandrakasem Rajabhat University, Navamindradhiraj University, to Kasem Bundit University, and Kasetsart University. Students are given an opportunity to join the waste collection challenge for E-Waste and plastic waste by submitting their waste at designated collection centres. Green Agents, student volunteers, log the results while providing educational advice on suitable waste segregation.

The universities involved will partake in training sessions, workshops, and site visits centered around appropriate waste management for E-Waste and plastic waste. The universities showcasing the most contribution in terms of E-Waste and used plastic waste collection will be awarded scholarships cumulatively worth more than 60,000 baht along with upcycling trophies crafted from plastic and E-Waste.
