On a significant day in the global tourism calendar, World Tourism Day (27 September), remarkable Thai tourism enterprises gathered at the Samyan Mitrtown Hall, as they were honored with the prestigious 14th Thailand Tourism Awards for their exceptional service and quality in tourism and hospitality. It was a sea of 254 acclaimed businesses, all basking in the glory of this coveted recognition, conferred upon them by the honorable Her Royal Highness Princess Ubolratana. The ceremony was nothing short of a grand spectacle, amplifying Thailand’s strategic shift towards high-value and sustainable tourism.
Highlighted during the ceremony were two new categories: tour programs and low-carbon sustainability, augmenting the initiative’s commitment to sustainable tourism, in addition to existing categories which venerate excellence in the realms of attraction, accommodation, and health and wellness tourism. The underlying ethos of these biannual awards, championed by the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, is to shine a light on sustainable tourism, emphasising its importance in our ever-evolving and conscious society.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, H.E. Mr. Arrun Boonchai, stated at the glitzy event, “Tourism undoubtedly acts as a lifeline for our Thai economy, and our government is focused on implementing various measures to boost and sustain our tourism supply standards. The Thailand Tourism Awards is a pivotal initiative in promoting sustainable development, fostering cooperation among stakeholders, generating employment opportunities, and promoting an equitable distribution of the benefits and income that tourism brings across our vibrant kingdom.”
Conceptualized and executed by the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), the Thailand Tourism Awards, or the Kinnari Awards as they are popularly known, first graced the tourism landscape in 1996. The primary objective behind the inception of these awards was the promotion of quality and excellence within the tourism and hospitality sectors. While these accolades underline Thailand’s robust tourism industry filled with forward-thinking and innovative businesses, they also represent the readiness of the Award winners to adopt and bolster the travel industry significantly, allowing them to compete on an international platform for many years to come.
