• Tak: November 5 to November 8 for the Rim Sai Than Lan Krathong
The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) said on Monday that upcoming events will “give travelers the opportunity to explore each province’s unique cultural traditions.” As the Thai holiday of Loy Krathong approaches, tourism officials in six distinct regions are making preparations for holiday-related events. Loy Krathong, also known as the Festival of Lights in Thailand, is one of the most significant celebrations on the Thai calendar. During this beautiful event, people gather around rivers, canals, ponds, lakes, and other bodies of water to launch lotus-shaped rafts into the water. Banana trunks, also known as Krathong, are customarily fashioned into the shape of a lotus and decorated with flowers, incense, candles, different personal belongings, and craft store-purchased items. The floating rafts are meant to symbolize the “floating away” of one’s sins and misfortunes from a former life in order to start a new one.
