Buriram Struggle: Waenphet and Pimonrat’s Courage Against Online Intimidation in 2025

In the picturesque province of Buriram, nestled in Thailand’s Isaan region, a tale as gripping as any thriller unfolded, with an anxious mother and daughter at its heart. Waenphet, a 49-year-old single mother, and her 29-year-old daughter, Pimonrat, found themselves caught in a web of intimidation spun by a man named Chart, whose unbalanced mind seemed set on a perilous course following an unwelcomed rejection.

It all began when Waenphet’s husband, in a twist as dramatic as a soap opera plot, disappeared on January 10, absconding with the family savings and seeking solace with another woman. Three days after this shocker, Chart made his first appearance, weaving tales of friendship with Waenphet’s absent husband. Just like that, he introduced himself as a gold shop owner and an authoritative figure within the Police Administration’s Inspection and Monitoring Committee—a claim that might have seemed impressive if it weren’t for what followed.

Chart’s charm offensive included promises of tracking down the absentee husband and even recovering the lost fortune, leading to an exchange of contact details—a decision that soon turned sour. He extended an invitation to Waenphet to meet his ‘brother,’ who he suggested might have a trail on her missing spouse. A curious Waenphet agreed, only to be blindsided by Chart’s deceitful declarations; he introduced her as his wife and offered to shoulder her debts—a magnanimous offer she firmly rebuffed, clarifying her short acquaintance with Chart.

When the awkward meeting ended, Chart persistently referred to Waenphet as his wife upon their return, as if trying to weave fiction into fact. This audacious claim sparked the ire of Pimonrat, who wasted no time in showing him the door. Not one to take rejection lightly, Chart resorted to modern men’s often misguided weapon of choice—online threats. A torrent of messages demanded an apology from Pimonrat, garnished with sinister images of a gun. Claiming clout and influence, Chart’s threats jeopardized the safety and peace Waenphet and her daughter so desperately sought.

In desperation, they turned to Chum Saeng Police Station, presenting the virtual threats as evidence. The police shed light on Chart’s mental instability but, frustratingly, did little else to assuage their fears. With law enforcement unmoved, Waenphet and Pimonrat hoped that their voices, amplified by media coverage, would catalyze action and secure their protection.

This chilling episode finds an eerie echo in a November news piece from Bangkok—a man, jilted by a married woman, spiraled into a violent frenzy, injuring several in a terrifying sequence of events that ended tragically. It’s a stark reminder of the lengths to which desperation and mental illness can drive individuals, raising urgent questions about community safety and mental health interventions.

In an ever-unfolding news reel, new incidents flicker into view, ranging from the headline-grabbing—a Thai man’s legal battles over lottery disputes, to the heartwarming—Thailand topping travel wishlists across Southeast Asia. Yet, within this kaleidoscope of events, the story of Waenphet and Pimonrat serves as a poignant narrative of courage and resilience in the face of looming danger, a testament to their will to reclaim security amidst mounting fears.

As they wait for decisive action from authorities, their story remains a beacon for media eyes, helping alert the world to a plight that is as personal as it is universal—a parent’s fierce love and protective instincts against the unpredictable tides of life.

This is terrifying to read. The police should definitely do more to help Waenphet and Pimonrat. Why do they seem so indifferent?

    • Lena January 22, 2025

Unfortunately, this kind of police inaction isn’t uncommon, especially in small provinces. It’s frustrating to see such negligence.

      • Joe January 22, 2025

I agree, Lena. But it’s not only frustrating, it’s downright dangerous! Their lives are at risk with Chart still out there.

      • Anna K January 22, 2025

Let’s not forget, the police resources might be limited too. There should be pressure on local government for more support.

    • JD January 22, 2025

Until there’s real fear of consequences for these threats, nothing will change.

  2. Chai M January 22, 2025

Isn’t it strange that this guy Chart just appears out of nowhere with this elaborate backstory? Smells fishy to me.

    • Larry Davis January 22, 2025

Absolutely! Either he’s a con artist who knew exactly what he was doing, or he’s seriously delusional.

    • Chai M January 22, 2025

Or both! Either way, he’s dangerous and needs to be stopped.

  3. grower134 January 22, 2025

What happened to caring for one another? Chart needs help, but his threats should never be tolerated. More mental health support, please!

    • Sophie January 22, 2025

Mental health is often overlooked in such cases. But it’s no excuse for threatening someone else’s safety.

      • grower134 January 22, 2025

Agreed, Sophie. Responsibility and compassion have to go hand in hand.

    • Devin O January 22, 2025

It’s about finding balance—help those in need but also protect innocent victims like this family.

  4. Maria T January 22, 2025

Pimonrat handled Chart well by kicking him out right away. More power to her! Women should never feel threatened for standing their ground.

    • Rob L January 22, 2025

Absolutely, Maria! We need more people like Pimonrat willing to stand up to these bullies.

  5. bkk_girl89 January 22, 2025

This reminds me of that incident last year in Bangkok. People with mental health issues not getting the help they need often end up in dangerous situations.

  6. Tommy January 22, 2025

Is it just me, or are stories like these becoming more common? We need to start taking online threats more seriously before someone gets hurt.

    • Lucy P January 22, 2025

It’s not just you, Tommy. Online threats have real-world consequences and should be taken seriously.

    • Tommy January 22, 2025

Exactly, Lucy. The anonymity of the internet has given people like Chart a misguided sense of power.

  7. KK January 22, 2025

Waenphet’s story is a tough reminder that legal systems often lag behind when it comes to online harassment. Law needs to catch up with technology!

  8. Larry D January 22, 2025

Why can’t the media do more to help people like Waenphet and Pimonrat? They’ve shown they can influence public opinion before.

    • grower134 January 22, 2025

Good point, Larry! Media pressure could push authorities to act faster.

    • Larry D January 22, 2025

Exactly! Sometimes public awareness is the key to driving change.

  9. Anna K January 22, 2025

I hope this story doesn’t end tragically. More public outrage and demand for accountability might push for real change.

  10. Evelyn January 22, 2025

I can’t believe the police downplayed Chart’s threats despite having evidence. How can people feel safe if law enforcement doesn’t take things seriously?

    • Rob L January 22, 2025

That’s the tragedy, Evelyn. We rely on them for protection, yet sometimes they fail us.

  11. Sophie January 22, 2025

Chart needs to face consequences as much as he needs mental health support. Serious intervention is the solution here.

    • JD January 22, 2025

Again, without fear of real consequences, we’re not going to see real change.
