Exciting news hitting the travel industry is Air Japan’s proclamation of its decision to cater to the Thai travel audience, launching a new direct route between Bangkok and Tokyo in the forthcoming calendar year. The recently introduced Air Japan, a financially-friendly subsidiary under the umbrella of ANA Holdings, is gearing up to launch a maiden voyage from the illustrious Narita International Airport in Tokyo to Thailand’s bustling Suvarnabhumi International Airport in Bangkok. The noteworthy flight is set to lift off the runway on 10th February 2024, illuminating the sky.

Air Japan appears poised to take to the skies with a state-of-the-art Boeing 784-9 at its disposal, a machine equipped to seat up to 324 passengers in a single journey. Interestingly, the flights have been fashioned with an economy-only setting to accommodate and cater to a diverse audience. The airline’s President, Minekuji Hideki, unveiled plans to set in motion six flights a week during the initial months of the operation, further intending to increase the frequency to include an additional weekly flight later within the same year.

In a move that propels international connectivity within Asia, Air Japan has also speculated that it may introduce some enticing new routes such as direct flights from Bangkok to Japan’s culturally-rich Kansai region and potentially extend its wings from various Southeast Asian countries into Japan, all within the first three years of operation. Trusting his forecasting prowess, Hideki estimates about 70% of passengers will likely be Thai travellers and foresees a steady stream of female Japanese travellers comprising about 30% of their total passenger count, notably because Thailand has always been a favourite getaway destination for Japanese women.

Air Japan’s strategic targeting of Thai travellers comes in the wake of a somewhat subdued Japanese travel market, the result of an observable reluctance amongst Japanese to venture overseas due to the depreciating yen along with an apparent apathetic attitude of the younger generation towards obtaining a passport to travel abroad. Despite the challenging market, Hideki remains optimistically bullish about the future of low-cost airline industry and strongly believes that Air Japan holds potential to soar high in the competitive skies.

Hideki passionately backs the unique selling points of Air Japan as a delightful fusion of the authentic Japanese experience embodied in the concept of Omotenashi, a philosophy that reflects Japanese attentiveness and delicate manner, mixed with the allure of high-grade Japanese cuisine served in-flight, wrapped comfortably in cozy passenger seating. Accompanying these in-flight perks, customers can enjoy the convenience of onboard phone chargers and access free Wi-Fi to stay connected throughout the journey.

According to a report by Gorgeous Bangkok, Thai travellers can set their sights on the Land of the Rising Sun, with ticket prices for the direct flight between Bangkok and Tokyo starting at a competitive 4,350 baht per trip. Air Japan’s direct offering (NQ002) will lift off from Suvarnabhumi airport every night at the stroke of midnight, touching down at Narita airport at a favourable 8.10 am. This flight will run six days a week, remaining grounded on Wednesdays. The return journey from Tokyo to Bangkok (NQ001) departs Narita at 5.55pm, landing back in Bangkok at 11.15pm, operating similarly six days of the week, taking a day’s break on Tuesdays.
