In the heart of Bangkok, a city gasping for green spaces, a breath of fresh air has been released – a park spanning 46-rai, which, unlike most public spaces in the metropolis, welcomes pets with open arms (and retractable leashes). Instead of the usual prohibition signs divesting pet lovers of much-needed outdoor havens, signboards in this park sport user-friendly QR codes for quick and hassle-free check-in processes.
However, it isn’t a lawless wonderland for pets. A clear set of rules delineates the code of conduct in the park. Pet owners are required to keep their pets on leashes or in strollers and, critically, they must clean up after their pets promptly – maintaining the park as an agreeable space for everyone.
Aekwaranyu Amrapal, the spokesperson for the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), elucidated the admittedly high expectations for the park on a Wednesday announcement. Opened for public use since Sunday, September 17, the park has seen wide-ranged enthusiasm and appreciation from pet owners. It offers a compelling case for the increasing demand for pet-friendly spaces and communal areas where pets can play, and their humans can exercise and unwind.
The park is open twenty-four hours a day and is replete with an array of facilities that cater to a whole gamut of needs. Activity areas for dogs and cats to unleash their energy – check. Relaxation pavilions for worn-out humans – check. Walking and running tracks that invite daily regimens of cardio workouts – check. Parking lots for cars bringing pets from across the precinct – double-check.
To furnish the needs of the populace for leisurely rest, strenuous exercise, and myriad recreational activities, BMA has thus far unveiled several parks where pets are unnegotiably welcome. For instance, pet owners can wander into the One Pet Park at Vachirabenjatas Park located in Chatuchak district. Or maybe trot over to any of the four dog parks spread over the city – Vachara Phirom Park in Bang Khen district, Bang Khae Phirom Park in Bang Khae district, Thian Thale Phatthana Phrueksa Phirom Park in Bang Khun Thian district, and Benjakitti Park in Khlong Toei district.
Moreover, BMA has earmarked some areas at the public park in Bueng Nong Bon Sports Centre, Prawet district, turning them into welcome havens for our furry friends.
