Unleashing exhilarating news, the tourism bureau has launched a landmark programme permitting globetrotters to enjoy the scenic beauty of Thailand visa-free for a duration of 30 days. This exceptional provision spans across a 5 month-period, beginning from the 25th of September running up until the 29th of February, 2024.
In recent data released by the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, there’s been an overwhelming surge in the number of international visitors adorning the Thai shorelines. A substantial 271% upswing was witnessed from January 1st to September 17th, totalling more than a whopping 19 million joyful vacationers, comparing to the corresponding timespan in the prior year.
Intriguingly, the contributing nations to these hefty visitor numbers during this duration have been:
Malaysia – 3,076,274 tourists
China – 2,341,080 tourists
South Korea – 1,125,639 tourists
India – 1,097,395 tourists
Russia – 961,348 tourists
The influx of these hearty travellers has placed an impressively positive impact on the Thai tourism sector, pouring a stunning total revenue exceeding 795.11 billion baht. Coupling this with the income generated by domestic tourists, the combined tourism revenue delightfully touches the 1.3 trillion baht mark.
Gazing forward, there’s an expected steady rebound in foreign tourism as briefed by the Ministry of Tourism and Sports. The forecasting is largely based on the observed oncoming consecutive holidays in markets inclusive of Malaysia and Japan. During this blooming period, the projection anticipates an inflow of roughly 490,000 international tourists, dominantly from proximate markets inclusive of East Asia, Southeast Asia, and ASEAN.
However, navigating through this journey does bring its share of challenges, and the tourism sector isn’t immune. The limited availability of flights partnered with spiked ticket prices when compared to parallel destinations adds gravity to these intricacies.
Recounting previous discussions, Thapanee Kiatphaibool, the dynamic Governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), speculated that the receipt of foreign tourist trends of the current year suggests an estimate of potentially welcoming about 28-29 million global explorers. This statistic stands confidently above the benchmark set by the TAT to receive at least 25 million tourists.
Moreover, a leap in the benchmark for the forthcoming year has recently been announced by the Ministry of Tourism and Sports. The anticipatory number of international tourists has been escalated to 40 million, directly stepping up from the prior expectation of 35 million. This target is staunchly backed by the confidence of the diligent PM Srettha alongside full-fledged support from all government ministries redirecting their focus towards nurturing the tourism sector. With operational gears shifting towards these luminous heights, TAT stands ready in its endeavours to capture the 40 million tourist goal.
