Siam Paragon Exhibits Captivating Floral Craft “Busabunchalee MaleeNopparat Chalerm Prachon” at The Jewel, M Floor, from 1-31 July 2024
Siam Paragon celebrates Thai floral artistry with a grand floral exhibit entitled “Busabunchalee MaleeNopparat Chalerm Prachon,” signifying exquisite flowers and auspicious gemstones. This splendid flower showcase is brought to life by the genius of Sakul Inthakul, a revered Thai floral artist of international acclaim. This artistic endeavor is a collaboration with the Faculty of Home Economics Technology at Rajamangala University of Technology Krungthep, led by the esteemed Head of Home Economics Education Asst. Prof. Dr. Jakkrapan Roopngam, and includes contributions from over a hundred students from the Faculty of Home Economics. The exhibit is a heartfelt expression of loyalty and best wishes to His Majesty the King.
Commenting on his iconic work, Sakul Inthakul said, “This grandiose floral work celebrates a very auspicious occasion. As an artist, creating a visually stunning centerpiece in a public space like Siam Paragon, which welcomes numerous visitors each day, is a unique challenge. This floral display reflects Thai heritage and culture while incorporating contemporary elements that resonate with all generations. The intricate details elevate the value of this work of art, and the objective is to offer blessings and express our loyalty to His Majesty the King on this auspicious occasion.”
The magnificent golden-yellow showcase is inspired by the infinite varieties of Thai flowers, especially the sacred yellow star, symbolizing the reign of King Maha Vajiralongkorn. A total of 46 Yellow Star blooms have been artistically fabricated using fabric crafted with traditional Thai banana leaf art techniques. Each intricately crafted pollen takes the form of a buckle in traditional Thai costume and is adorned with fabric representing auspicious gemstones, including diamond, pearl, emerald, ruby, yellow sapphire, garnet, blue sapphire, and blue topaz.
Sakul, who has rendered royal commissions for Her Majesty Queen Sirikit the Queen Mother, incorporates the “Queen Sirikit Cattleya” orchids, one of the iconic floras named after Her Majesty, into this magnificent display. The orchids, along with the yellow star, signify the profound connection between His Majesty the King and Her Majesty Queen Sirikit the Queen Mother. These stunning orchids are beautifully crafted with lifelike Thai flowers, including crown flowers and gardenias, intricately woven into elegant flower netting patterns.
The public is warmly invited to commemorate His Majesty the King’s birthday anniversary and partake in the mesmerizing cultural performances, which are free for all to enjoy from 26-29 July 2024, between 13:00 – 19:00 hrs. This event sounds amazing! Celebrating the King’s birthday with such a grand cultural showcase is a fantastic idea.
Really? I think it’s just a way for companies like Siam Paragon to cash in on people’s patriotism.
Sure, businesses benefit, but aren’t we all getting a richer cultural experience? Just look at the lineup!
It’s a poignant reminder of Thailand’s soft power culture, blending capitalism with national pride. The intersections are fascinating.
It’s interesting how they blend traditional Thai elements with performances from other countries. Truly a global celebration.
Global, sure. But isn’t this more about showing Thailand’s influence and partnerships?
As if other countries need Thailand to promote their culture globally. This is more about diplomacy and soft power dynamics.
Maybe, but isn’t that the beauty of cultural exchange? Diplomacy aside, it’s about appreciating diverse art forms.
The floral display sounds like a dream. Sakul Inthakul is such a talented artist!
No doubt, but it’s just flowers. They could spend that money on social welfare instead.
Art has its place in society too. It’s a form of expression and can uplift communities.
Exactly, Pim! Plus, it involves students and education, which is always worthwhile.
I wonder how much this entire event costs. Must be in the millions!
With the sponsors like Siam Commercial Bank and Boon Rawd Brewery, they probably aren’t worried about the costs.
True, but think about the economic boost from tourism and foot traffic at Siam Paragon.
Fair point, NatGeoFan. Just hope it’s worth it for the locals and not just a tourism gimmick.
I can’t wait to see the Khon performances! They’re always so captivating.
Khon performances are a highlight for sure. Thailand’s way of preserving tradition is commendable.
Absolutely, Hannah. It’s important to keep these traditions alive for future generations.
Hopefully, they’ll stream some of the events online for those who can’t attend in person.
It’s nice to see so many countries participating. Shows a lot of international goodwill.
I just hope it’s not too commercialized. These events tend to be more about selling products than celebrating culture.
Commercialization is inevitable, but it doesn’t mean the cultural aspects are any less significant.
True, Nancy. Let’s just hope they keep the commercialization to a minimum.
The theme ‘Long-Standing Relations’ really fits the current global narrative of interconnectedness. Kudos to the organizers!
Yes, but isn’t it ironic given the political tension globally? Feels a bit hypocritical.
Well, events like these can be a gateway to improving those tensions. It’s about finding common ground.
Would love to see the Flamenco dance. Spain’s contribution sounds exciting!
Any mention of food? These events usually have some great international cuisine.
The golden-yellow floral piece using Thai flowers sounds exquisite. I wonder how they make it look so lifelike!
Traditional Thai banana leaf art techniques are probably the key. It’s true craftsmanship.
Thanks, George. Truly impressive. Would love to learn more about those techniques.
This showcases Thailand’s cultural diplomacy at its finest. It’s more than just performances; it’s a strategic move.
Can’t believe they’re doing Broadway performances too! Such a mix of traditions and modernity.
Feels like they’re throwing in Western elements to appeal to tourists. Not very authentic.
Happy Birthday to King Vajiralongkorn! Events like this are a beautiful way to honor him.
Couldn’t agree more, Jai. It’s a celebration of both the King and Thai culture.
It’s a spectacle, sure, but let’s not forget the issues facing Thailand. This feels like a distraction.
