Tragedy struck in the heart of Bangkok’s Chacheongsao province yesterday as a long-standing feud between two students took a frightful turn, culminating in the fatal stabbing of a 15-year-old student by his 14-year-old schoolmate.
Local community leader Korrakot Tungphan was one of the first to arrive at the scene following the dreaded ordeal. He revealed to ThaiRath reporters that he was alerted to the incident around 5pm, propelling him to hastily make his way to the school.
A scene of palpable shock and distress met him at the school, where the grieving parents and the school director were in the process of escorting the wounded victim to a nearby hospital. The sight of shaken teachers and students echoing the sombre mood formed a disheartening backdrop to the tragic incident.
Korrakot didn’t delay in contacting officials from Tha Takiap Police Station, briefing them about the situation even as they prepared to interrogate witnesses at the school.
The sequence of events leading to the fatal altercation paints a grim picture. The victim sustained three severe stab wounds inflicted by his own young schoolmate, who wielded a penknife. Even as skilled medical practitioners at Tha Takiap Hospital fought to revive him, employing CPR repeatedly, the distressed victim succumbed to his injuries.
Evidence from various witnesses hints at a brewing conflict between the two young students, with hostile arguments in the days leading to the fatal incident. Tensions peaked on the fateful day, with the clash escalating rapidly from a heated argument into deadly physical combat.
The victim’s grandmother, Amara Panthong, confided in Nation TV. She shared her personal horror on arriving at the school after a teacher’s urgent summons, only to be plunged into pandemonium. The news of the stabbing incident, followed by the sight of her grievously injured grandson, sent shockwaves through her. The crushing blow, however, came when her grandson relayed his pain to her, expressing his inability to bear the infliction, and then tragically closed his eyes for the last time.
As the community reels from the shocking incident, details of the fatal confrontation are still under investigation. The young assailant is currently under police supervision, with specialist psychologists set to delve into his psyche in order to unearth the motivation behind the dreadful attack.
Meanwhile, Community leader Korrakot plans to arrange a meeting with the school administration and the parents of both students involved in the incident. The meeting aims to discuss possible monetary compensation and strategize means to offer reassurance and emotional solace to the school community and the other students.
